Foster Sundry is Hiring a Line cook Near Brooklyn, NY

Prep cook / line cook position - Immediate Availability - competitve pay, pleasant working environment, good work / life balance.

We're a busy all-day cafe in Bushwick, Brooklyn with a positive, close-knit team and chill vibes. We're looking for a full-time line cook to join us in executing a concise, high-quality menu of sandwiches and salads.

The line cook position is an integral part of the food-service team, a piston in the engine of our kitchen. Reporting to the kitchen manager, the line cook is primarily responsible for preparing and executing recipes according to expectations of high quality and peak efficiency.

Much of this work will take the form of prep and grill duties duties, i.e. making customer sandwiches to order. Some additional duties will include placing simple fulfillment orders with vendors, portioning food for service, developing and executing ad-hoc recipes to mitigate waste, assisting other departments with assorted food prep and maintenance tasks, and more.

You can expect fair wages, paid time off, even-handed management, reliable hours, consecutive days off, and room for growth.

Note, this is a daytime position. All shifts are scheduled for 8 hours, and you will earn overtime for any hours worked above 40 hours per week.

Shifts begin anytime between 8 : 30am and 11 : 30am.

Base hourly compensation begins at $17 / hr, but average net effective compensation (including bonuses, etc) is above $20 / hr for ALL employees.

Daily Responsibilities :

  • Cooks hot food to order in a timely, detail-oriented manner, per existing recipes
  • Slices and portions food for service
  • Prepares sufficient mise for service
  • Places fulfillment orders for necessary items to execute recipes as defined
  • Assists other departments with prep and maintenance work, as needed
  • Ensures staff is familiar with new and existing products
  • Organizes and maintains a clean, safe walk-in
  • Maintains the highest level of food safety and sanitation

Requirements :

  • Experience working as a line cook or prep cook, especially in a deli or hot sandwiches setting; culinary school experience a plus
  • Ability to work cleanly and efficiently, producing minimal waste.
  • HIGHLY meticulous, punctual and detail-oriented
  • A positive attitude and an enthusiastic desire to do excellent work in all areas of the store
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and spend 8 hours standing
  • Passion for the principles of sustainable food and farming
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • A diligent approach to safety and sanitation. ServSafe (or analogous) certification required
  • A team player with a willingness to jump in and help with all tasks. A self-starter and hard worker
  • Desire to help build something from the ground up, and make it truly awesome.
