Fortune International is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near Bensenville, IL

Summary of Position:

This position plays a critical role in executing the transportation and logistics needs of the organization on a day-to-day basis. Primary areas of focus include daily oversight of the truck fleet and delivery drivers while ensuring timely and accurate deliveries to our customers. Communicate and coordinate with the Warehouse, Accounting, Sales departments to address pain-points and contribute to solutions. The Transportation Manager will positively demonstrate and model behavior consistent with departmental core values of Safety/Compliance, Accuracy and Communication.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage route optimization and vehicle tracking to limit distribution costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Leverage software tools as appropriate.
  • Recommend policy, staffing, equipment recommendations to the Senior Director.
  • Adhere to safety initiatives and policies to display safety culture throughout department.
  • Support and oversee satellite sites in Indianapolis, West & East Michigan.
  • Manager driver schedule and weekly routes
  • Ensure all drivers and vehicles are DOT compliant.
  • Report on maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment.
  • Keep organized records of vehicles, schedules and completed orders.
  • Complete UCR, IFTA, MCS-150 on annual/quarterly/Bi-annual basis
  • Assemble data for accident/insurance investigations.
  • Ensure drivers are properly trained on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Execute continuous process improvement initiatives for the delivery drivers. Assist with creating and enforcing action plans when improvement opportunities are identified.
  • Coach delivery drivers through clear communication on performance expectations and daily goals.
  • Continually identify areas of improvement and efficiency within delivery routes.
  • Strategically align department goals to company’s mission by creating appropriate measurement tools
  • Communicate in a timely manner to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate with Senior leadership staff regarding route changes and timing concerns.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement programs to eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Ensure that industry and regulatory compliance is maintained, including DOT regulations.
  • Maintain strong relationships and communication links with all departments to facilitate an effective and positive work environment.
  • Perform daily reporting of Transportation KPI’s.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, though a bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven work experience 5 years in a transportation/logistic role
  • Demonstrated results in establishing goals and metrics for measuring success.
  • Strong computer application skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required. Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with transportation systems and technology including but not limited to: Samsara, XRS - Omnitracs, Descartes, E-Logs, SmartDrive, Trimble Fleet (people net), Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Technical Proficiency in PC skills including Microsoft Office, ADP, and J.J. Keller.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local fleet and safety regulatory requirements (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • A demonstrated sense of urgency in meeting critical and time sensitive deadlines
  • Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
  • Additional skills: collaborative, analytical, detail oriented, highly organized, influential, relationship builder.
  • A combination of education and experience with the above requirements will also be considered to satisfy minimum requirements.
