Position Description

Mechanical Superintendents coordinate on project sites with mechanical trade subcontractors to ensure that the mechanical (wet and dry) construction work is installed safely, of the highest quality, and in accordance with project specific cost, approved submittals, and schedule requirements.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and career pathing for Assistant Mechanical Superintendents as well as Project Engineers.
  • Collaborate with other Fortis Mechanical Superintendents on best practices and training targeted at Assistant Mechanical Superintendents.
  • Lead up to Sr Mechanical Superintendents; building relationships, growth plans and providing feedback.
  • Provide guidance regarding site safety practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities as it pertains to Fortis culture, client, and sub-contractor interaction.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Have a detailed understanding of the contract documents (drawings and specifications), phasing plans, mechanical and piping systems interrelationships, construction sequencing and project schedule.
  • Lead the coordination and planning of the mechanical trade partner.
  • Facilitate problem solving, as may arise, between mechanical, electrical and controls Subcontractors during construction.
  • Validate design issues related to mechanical systems and suggest alternative solutions.
  • If needed, establish process in the receipt and review of Mechanical submittals.
  • Ensure that any mechanical changes are being incorporated into the field work.
  • Participate in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) coordination meetings to plan and resolve routings.
  • Ensure the VDC model is updated with actual field installations.
  • Direct, monitor and control the activities of Mechanical Subcontractor.
  • Schedule and procurement tracking for mechanical scopes and equipment.
  • Interface with the client technical staff.
  • Coordinate Owner Furnished Equipment.
  • Liaison with consultant, mechanical design engineers, inspectors and relevant staff.
  • Ensure that mechanical subcontractors provide and adhere to relevant QA/QC requirements.
  • Prepare Methods of Procedures (MOP’s) for all high risk and shutdown activities.
  • Ensure that mechanical subcontractors adhere to site specific safety plans and pre-task plans.
  • Assist in the integration, start-up, testing and commissioning of mechanical systems
  • General understanding of electrical, BMS & EPMS systems

Position Requirements

  • 5 years of experience as an M&E Coordinator or M&E trade supervisor
  • Strong grasp of mechanical systems
  • Ability to run complex meetings with multiple constituents and follow-up on deliverables.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Excel, Word, Bluebeam etc.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills
