Food Recovery Network is Hiring a Programs Associate Near Washington, DC

Program Associate

Location: Remote

Reports to: Program Manager

Food Recovery Network (FRN) is seeking a Program Associate. This position will be housed in the Programs Department and report to the Program Manager. This is an ideal position for someone with 1-2 years of experience who can simultaneously manage multiple, detail-oriented projects in a fast-paced environment, exhibits strong communication skills, and is looking to work on a wide variety of projects. Priority will be given to candidates with direct experience with an FRN chapter, but all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

Student Chapter Support and Outreach (50%)

  • Provide routine individual support to FRN’s nearly 200 college student-led chapters, including:
    • Help troubleshoot issues that chapters have with volunteer recruitment, food recoveries, and other common issues student leaders face, via email, social, and calls 
    • Monitor and approve new chapter applications
    • Monitor and approve chapter grant requests, with support from Program Manager 
    • Monitor Official Chapter Agreement (OCA) submissions from chapters 
  • Oversee daily management of the Program Team’s gmail inbox, and ensure correspondence is timely and effective
  • Support in coordinating chapter engagement and support opportunities, including special campaigns such as Bowl to Bracket Bingo 
  • Support in updating chapter resources
  • Assist with maintaining up-to-date program data, including: 
    • Update chapter and individual contact records in Salesforce 
    • Pull data for grant reports and quarterly metrics review 
    • Log call notes with chapters in Salesforce
    • Facilitate data imports
    • Track chapter engagement across all opportunities 
  • Support execution of network-wide surveys 
  • Support coordination and execution of student and all alumni-focused communications
  • Coordinate logistics for webinars and external calls, including scheduling, drafting prep or presentation materials, promotion, and communicating with attendees
  • Support outreach to encourage new chapters, including: 
    • Conduct research and outreach to FRN network partners to support students and faculty/staff members in starting a chapter 
    • Take calls with interested students, faculty, and/or staff 
    • Assist with the coordination of any chapter recruitment efforts
  • Support FRN’s Student and Alumni Advisory Board (SAAB) program, including: 
    • Serve as primary contact with SAAB members 
    • Coordinate meeting logistics, including scheduling and prep materials 
    • Support the recruitment of new SAAB members 

School Produce Hubs Program (30%)

  • Conduct research and outreach to FRN network partners, including small and local community garden partners, nonprofits, and dining providers, as needed 
  • Draft promotional materials and provide general administrative support for coordination and execution of local elementary school produce distribution programs 

Communications (10%)

  • Draft relevant social media posts and other key communications as needed
  • Provide feedback on and refinement of programmatic communications materials
  • Compile stories, testimonials and other chapter-based material for communications, including highlights of chapters, student leaders, alumni, and other programs through social media, blog posts, and funder updates
  • Ensure that chapter bios and FRN’s chapter map remain up to date on FRN’s website
  • Other tasks as assigned

Program-related Travel (10%)

  • Provide on-the-ground support in creating and executing food recoveries in communities across the U.S. as needed 

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented learner who can manage multiple projects at one time
  • Exhibit professionalism and determination 
  • An exceptionally high level of integrity, trust, accountability, and judgment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in real-time
  • Able to work as a supportive, involved team member
  • A relationship builder, collaborator, and/or connector
  • Proactive communicator 
  • Have a valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps for Business
  • Proficiency in Mailchimp and Canva is a plus
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM a plus
  • Sense of humor a must

Compensation & Benefits:

The compensation for this position is $50,000/year. Benefits include paid holidays, 8 hours of paid volunteering time, 15 days Paid Time Off (PTO), flexible work schedule, 100% employer-paid health insurance for those who live in DC, MD or VA and professional development opportunities.

Location:

This is a remote position, however, up to quarterly travel to FRN’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. or appropriate stakeholder events may be required as relevant. On a case-by-case basis, travel on behalf of FRN will be expected, to be determined with your manager.
