Position Title: Food Sourcing Logistics Coordinator
Reports to: Purchasing Manager
FLSA status: Full-time; Non-Exempt
Position purpose:
The Food Sourcing Logistics Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of logistics for inbound products essential to Food Bank for the Heartland’s supply chain operations. This role relies on a solid understanding of freight market dynamics, supply and demand factors, and strong organizational skills to meet the production and distribution needs of the organization. Primary responsibilities include managing a carrier portfolio and negotiations, overseeing timely delivery of purchased and donated products, coordinating delivery appointments, and providing strategic logistical solutions to satisfy vendor and donor expectations. The Food Sourcing Logistics Coordinator will work in tandem with other departments to support the organization’s overall budgetary goals, food distribution goals, and mission to eliminate hunger in the Heartland by ensuring consistent access to healthy foods through community partnerships.
Essential Accountabilities:
  • Oversee all supply chain operations for inbound purchased products, USDA TEFAP products, and donations.
  • Schedule inbound delivery appointments and collaborate with Operations Coordinators to effectively manage receiving calendar.
  • Track and trace all inbound loads to ensure on time deliveries and communicate timely updates to relevant departments.
  • Build and develop carrier relationships to negotiate, and secure capacity for product delivery when outsourcing is needed.
  • Respond to vendors, donors, and carriers with a sense of urgency to provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Monitor freight budget and timely receipt of all freight invoices. Complete accurate projections of upcoming freight need to maintain freight budget.
  • Record and track data for all donations and donors using NetSuite, including item card creation, PO creation, date of donation, total pounds donated, and donor information.
  • In conjunction with External Affairs, coordinate food drives with individuals, corporations, and state-wide entities including initial communication with interested parties, delivery of collection receptacles, delivery of product to the warehouse, and data tracking of completed food drives.
  • Provide program and data management support for Retail Enablement Program.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with donors, vendors, and agencies.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
