Food Bank for the Heartland is Hiring a Transportation Coordinator Near Omaha, NE

Position Title: Transportation Coordinator
Reports to: Transportation Manager
FLSA status: Hourly Full-time; Non-Exempt
Position Purpose:
The Transportation Coordinator will support the mission of Food Bank for the Heartland (FBFH) to reduce food insecurity by overseeing the operational aspects of fleet operations. This role will serve as a lead in logistical co-operation between multiple departments. In addition, this role is accountable for achieving operational results by supporting departmental strategies and specific objectives in alignment with FBFH’s strategic plan.
Essential Accountabilities:
  • Work in conjunction with Distribution Manager, Transportation Manager, Food Sourcing, and Volunteer Center Manager and department coordinators to forecast needed Transportation logistics.
  • Operate as a “relief” driver during times of heavy volume and or driver vacation coverage.
  • Review completed daily pick up logs, mileage logs, and daily transportation tasks. Report in a timely manner any irregularities or issues to the supervisor.
  • Review completed assigned route specified manifests for, digital ELD logbooks, and DVIR’s for accuracy and needed truck repairs.
  • In conjunction with the Transportation Manager provide oversight with fleet tracking, scheduling repairs and maintenance for both Commercial and Non-Commercial fleet vehicles.
  • Review any additional Department of Transportation regulated manifests and paperwork. Report in a timely manner any irregularities or issues to supervisor
  • In conjunction with Transportation Manager update dashboards with daily/weekly routing and driver performance tracking.
  • Effectively communicate with Network Relations, Food Sourcing, and the Distribution Center teams to promptly rectify any logistical, customer service, or product issues.
  • Coordinate all aspects of onsite inbound and outbound freight deliveries. Ensure timely communication with distribution center team members to ensure efficient processes with all products.
  • Collect inbound driver Bills of Lading, assign dock door, and provide other pertinent instruction. Ensure proper distribution and/or storage of all received documentation of inbound product loads.
  • Promote and demonstrate FBFH mission and values to stakeholders and communities while performing work duties.
  • Support transportation department workload by assisting other drivers in the loading or unloading of unassigned trucks as needed or when requested.
  • Assist with transportation duties as needed

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Forklift and other equipment trained or trainable
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Forklift, dolly, and pallet jack experience preferred
  • Warehouse experience preferred
  • Routinely lifts 50lbs
Education and Experience:
  • Class B driver's license desired but not required
  • High school Diploma or GED required
  • 2 years’ experience as a transportation coordinator or relatable field
Working conditions:
  • Pre-employment and random drug screening as required by DOT
  • Occasional driving of commercial straight 26-foot truck
  • Occasional weekend and overnight work
  • Occasional severe weather and difficult road conditions
Physical Demands
The employee works primarily in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in this work environment is typical of that of an office setting. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
Some duties of this job description require the employee to be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and be able to use appropriate equipment to lift and move greater amounts. Must be able to work in high traffic areas with forklifts, pallet jacks, and moving objects. While performing these duties the employee is frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear, and speak.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a fast-paced work environment spending most of the shift on their feet on concrete floors. The employee must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold. Must also be able to work inside refrigerated areas where food is kept. Throughout the work shift, the employee will be exposed to warehouse air and a noisy work environment.
