Food and Drug Law Institute is Hiring an Assistant Director, Educational Programs Near Washington, DC

The Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization that offers education, training, publications, and professional engagement opportunities in the field of food and drug law. As a neutral convener, FDLI provides a venue for stakeholders to inform innovative public policy, law, and regulation. FDLI’s scope covers all industries regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and related agencies and authorities in the U.S. and globally, including drugs, medical devices, biologics, food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, veterinary, tobacco and nicotine products, and cannabis-derived products.

The Assistant Director, Educational Programs serves as a key member of FDLI’s Educational Programs team. This position is responsible for researching and analyzing relevant issues in food and drug law to effectively develop and implement timely and topical FDLI conferences, webinars, and other educational programs. The role will cover issues related to all industries regulated by the FDA, with an emphasis on the tobacco and nicotine product area. The position reports to the Director, Educational Programs.

FDLI is a hybrid work environment composed of a strong, supportive, and close team of twenty professionals. While employees have the discretion to work from an approved remote location, this position will need to attend in-person meetings and events in the Washington, DC region, as necessary to meet the needs of FDLI.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Responsible for researching and analyzing relevant issues in food and drug law to effectively develop content and implement timely and topical FDLI conferences, courses, and webinars, specifically as they relate to tobacco and nicotine product areas
  • Works with FDLI’s leadership, members, staff, external committee members, and subject matter experts to identify, select, and develop educational program topics and offerings
  • Writes conference and panel descriptions, as well as promotional copy and other marketing-related materials
  • Works closely with the marketing team to ensure successful promotion of educational programs
  • Works closely with the membership team to identify new members and aid in member engagement
  • Works closely with the meetings team to ensure event logistics (space, A/V, etc.) fit the needs of the audience and speakers
  • Works as part of the educational programs team to improve and implement FDLI’s educational experiences, services, and programs
  • Supports the overall mission of FDLI publications by encouraging involvement with Update Magazine, and The Food and Drug Law Journal, including writing legal articles and analysis
  • Serves as a staff lead on assigned FDLI educational program committees to administer and coordinate the external committee and related programs
  • Maintains working knowledge of budget activity (registration revenue and expenses) regarding educational programs
  • Conducts consistent review of FDLI’s website and internal database to ensure content accuracy and track and analyze program registration and attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

HERE ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS YOU WILL TACKLE IN THIS POSITION:

  • Conduct video planning calls with FDLI Committees for conferences
  • Lead the review of submissions received during the call for proposals process, to ensure the conferences address the most timely and relevant topics
  • Work with FDA or other government agencies to secure keynote or panel speakers
  • Connect with partners at a member law firm to discuss the potential implications of FDA rules, memos, or guidance documents
  • Run planning calls for panels at conferences
  • Review recent FDA regulations, government actions, or case law to keep up-to-speed on important topics currently impacting the food and drug community, or research a specific topic in order to gain a deeper understanding
  • Prepare agendas for events, including session topic titles and descriptions
  • Attend and have an active role in FDLI programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required and JD preferred
  • Working knowledge of U.S. food and drug law regulation and policy strongly preferred
  • Relevant experience in the adult/continuing education, professional development, or related field is strongly preferred
  • Attention to detail, balanced with big-picture perspective; ability to prioritize and deliver multiple objectives contemporaneously
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues, members, and outside organizations
  • Demonstrated accountability, agility, and experience taking initiative with implementing ideas
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Exceptional listener even under stressful situations
  • Sense of humor
  • Microsoft Office experience and ability to learn new software
