Flyby Robotics is building ML-capable drones to power America’s critical industries. At Flyby, we believe the drones of the future won’t just be flying cameras — they’ll be flying supercomputers. You’ll be working alongside a team of Yale graduates, PhDs, and ex-JPL engineers. We’re backed by category-defining investors in American hard tech, including MaC Ventures, Ryan Hoover (Product Hunt Founder), Naval Ravikant (Angelist Founder), and others. 

The Role:

The combination of immense GPU power and heavy aerial lift creates a powerful machine. Great machines are not built in a vacuum. Such immense hardware capabilities need to be paired with actionable applications and integrations. We are looking for software engineers with strong application design and engineering experience who are excited about deploying a powerful drone’s capabilities into reliable software. 

What You’ll Do:

• Owns user-facing application design and development for the Flyby Robotics F-11 Series drones, such as ground control software on Android-powered smart controllers or laptop computers (via 5G/LTE). 
• Develop drone automation applications that utilize the Flyby Robotics F-11’s on-edge computing power for autonomous or semi-autonomous flight missions. 
• Work with third-party developers to deploy objection recognition, tracking, and detection applications on board Flyby Robotics drones for use cases serving first responders, oil/gas/electrical grid operators, or government researchers. 

• At least 1 year of experience with developing Android applications, strong familiarity with libraries and programming tools for Android.
• At least 2 years of experience using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Proficient with Docker, AWS, Git.
• Previous experience with Python and shell scripting.
• Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
