Hours: Fulltime (0.9 FTE, 72 hours per biweekly pay period including every third weekend) – Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with 30-minute meal break

Description:

Position Overview: Directs and supervises staff Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants and Unit Clerks in the performance of patient care to provide safe, quality care. Oversees the coordination of nursing care following the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides administrative supervision to other medical center staff on duty in the absence of the department manager or director. Responsible for the general administration of the medical center in the absence of administrative staff. Accept responsibility and accountability for decision making relative to the nursing care of patients, including adult, geriatric and the pediatric population. Interact with nursing staff, medical staff and other departments to ensure that patient needs are met. Responsible for professional development in self and contributes to the professional growth of others. Uses critical thinking skills in making decisions. Communicates with Health Care Providers, other departments, and nursing units to ensure that patient needs are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Positive support of FCMC general policies, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Positive support of ancillary services.
  • Knowledge and compliance of plans, policies and procedures for disaster, fire, safety, Infection Control, and HIPAA.
  • Attends and participates in required annual Education updates.
  • Practices cost-containment.
  • Utilizes guest relation techniques to the public, visitors, family, clergy, and others.
  • Assists in assuring compliance with State and Federal standards and regulations.
  • Notifies appropriate administrative and/or department management staff in the event of a crisis or emergency.
  • Reports and documents, when appropriate, any incidents, injuries and complaints or suggestions from patients, visitors, hospital staff and medical staff to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) as necessary.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals
  • Facilitates and supports changes within the medical center,
  • Exhibits critical thinking, conflict management, problem solving, and human resource development.
  • Evaluate medical information, as well as providing direct and individualized bedside nursing care to medical center patients.
  • Assist in keeping environment clean and tidy (patient and employee areas).
  • Prepares patient for admission, transfer, and discharge in a prompt, courteous, and efficient manner.
  • Assists in the care of the environment and equipment to ensure patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of staff.
  • Able to make clinical decisions based on patient needs and assessments.
  • Participates in nursing unit meetings, educational opportunities and activities offered by the medical center.
  • Able to perform the job duties of the Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Assist with direct patient care in various nursing units as needed to ensure safe, efficient, and quality care is provided.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties within scope of practice as assigned or requested.
  • Responds to and assists in emergency situations organizational wide.
  • Manages staffing needs and changes when Nursing Administrative Assistant and/or CNO are not available.
  • Reports employee illnesses, injuries, or incidents per policy.
  • Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission, vision, and values of the medical center.
  • Supports the medical center’s Quality Improvement (QI) program and assists nursing directors, as directed, with gathering data and supporting implemented changes.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Registered Nurses in a hospital setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year leadership experience.
  • Emergency and Obstetric nursing experience preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to communicate with confidence in a group setting.
  • Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate in English fluently.
  • Integrity and ability to work independently. Initiative to take on tasks without being told.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Adaptive to change, embraces change with optimism.
  • Ability to problem solve, critically think.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to operate technologies and equipment associated with this position.

Licensure/Certification Required:

  • Rhythm Interpretation Class.
  • Certification in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Certification Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • IV Therapy Training.
  • Basic fetal monitoring- will provide upon hire if needed.
