Kennel Technician & Feral Cat Care Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Kennel Technician & Feral Cat Care Specialist. In this role, you will provide excellent care to dogs and domestic and feral cats in our facility. Your duties will include maintaining clean and comfortable living spaces for all dogs and cats by administering medications as needed, assisting with feeding and grooming, and implementing enrichment activities to ensure the well-being of our patients.

Key areas of responsibility

· Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment

· Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks

· Provide quality care to patients including walking, feeding, cleaning, grooming when required and basic nursing care if required

· Administer medications and treatments to animals as prescribed by veterinarians.

· Monitor animals for signs of illness or distress, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff promptly

· Answer basic animal care questions and report specific information to medical staff

· Greet clients and enter or update client and pet (animal) information into practice’s computer system

· Help support the medical staff and assist in procedures while safely restraining animals

· Assist with intake procedures, including vaccinations and health assessments

· Maintain accurate records of care, including medical treatments, and behavior observations

· Assist Vet Techs or CSR leads on specific tasks when asked, such as discharging a patient

· Maintain the cleanliness of the clinic and animal holding areas through sanitation and organization

· Clean and sanitize kennels, litter boxes, and common areas to maintain a healthy organized environment

· Assist with laundry duties, including washing and drying bedding and towels

· Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other team members

· Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients even when busy or hectic situation arises

· Can deal intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with clients, often while multitasking

· Can accurately maintain medical records as needed

· Implement enrichment activities and socialization techniques to promote animals' mental and emotional well-being in our care

· Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· Prefer previous experience working with cats in a shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment.

· Seek candidates with expertise in animal behavior, health, and welfare, with a particular emphasis on comprehending the needs of feral cats.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, to ensure care for animals. Be flexible in work habits.

· Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing high-quality care to all animals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Requirements:

The kennel technician must be able to:

· Perform basic computer skills

· Physical effort: Work requires lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds of weight. Requires standing for extended periods of time and the ability to bend and stoop.

· Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal urine and feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.

The mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets is to make veterinary care affordable and accessible to all as we save lives by keeping dogs and cats in homes and out of shelters, provide low-cost spay/neuter services with emphasis on feral/community cats, and deliver a broad range of related programs and services.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
