Fidelity Investments Careers is Hiring a Principal Software Engineer/Developer Near Westlake, TX

Job Description:

Position Description:

Designs, develops, implements, and supports mission critical, front end Web applications, and financial tools. Develops Web Services using JSON, XML, REST, SOAP, and Spring Framework. Builds Cloud enabled applications using 12 factor design. Performs Docker containerization and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud deployment/application management. Performs unit testing and test automation. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, coding, debugging, and testing enterprise-grade distributed front and back-end applications to onboard and maintain brokerage platform accounts in a financial services environment.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, coding, debugging, and testing enterprise-grade distributed front and back-end applications to onboard and maintain brokerage platform accounts in a financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing and implementing highly functional and scalable Web applications using Cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization technologies (Docker); collaborating with business and technical teams to define and refine functional and non-functional requirements -- security, reliability, and recoverability; and defining test plans and coverage for software systems requirements.
  • DE designing and developing Web Services, using Java Spring Boot ecosystem, JDK 8, Maven, JSON, XML, SOAP, REST, and GraphQL; performing unit testing using Junit; and troubleshooting defects resulting from integration and load/performance testing, using log patterns, anomaly, and resource usage patterns.
  • DE performing responsive Web Model-View-Controller (MVC) design and front-end development using Angular framework, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Bootstrap; and performing JavaScript unit and integration testing using Jasmine and Karma.
  • DE building and deploying Cloud applications via Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodology using Jenkins, uDeploy, and Kubernetes; developing observability metrics and views that provide insight into application health (memory and Central Processing Unit (CPU) utilization, latency, traffic distribution, and resource usage) using DataDog and Splunk; and identifying error patterns and infrastructure issues, and proactively triggering alerts to production support and technology teams to support critical financial applications, using Cloud concepts -- Containerizations, Blue/Green Deployments, Replica-sets, Autoscaling, and Pods.
