Position Summary Under general supervision, responsible for initiating all payroll processes for the district Payroll function to ensure employees are paid timely. Is responsible for functioning all associated accounting entries to settle the payroll with the Financial Management & Planning Department. Key Responsibilities Initiate payroll processing cycle end-to-end processes of complex payrolls with multiple internal and external stakeholders to deliver targeted outcome of 100% accuracy. Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and year-end activities, reconciling and distributing payroll reports to Financial Management and Planning and other business areas as needed. Ability to take direction, prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll data, and communicate with different levels of staff concerning payroll matters by providing excellent customer service. Processing of payroll and taxes for multi-state locations in compliance with Statutory Regulations, Employment, and Labor Standards Execute and maintain payroll job stream checklists, following all detective and preventative controls. Maintain integrity of payroll database by ensuring accurate processing of new hires, status changes, work location updates, etc. Interpret and set up garnishment orders, child support deductions, etc. Provide insights on opportunities to improve payroll processes and results. Perform various ad hoc and final pay calculations (e.g. pay adjustments, overtime, PTO payouts, etc.) Perform comprehensive review of semi-monthly payroll and reconcile results to ensure accuracy prior to submission. Support Payroll function with projects and participate on cross-functional teams to assist with the implementation of new technologies, training and/or enhancements to existing platforms and processes. Timely and accurately upload payroll documentation into depository retention application. Respond to employment verifications, state tax rate changes, unemployment claims. Run and review monthly late separations report and provide Payroll manager with findings. Complete service recalculations for rehires, update the Human Capital Management application, and notify employee of update to years of service dates for verification. Respond timely and accurately to questions and requests from employees. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field. 0-3 years relevant experience Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Experience with Workday is a plus. Knowledge/Understanding of payroll regulations and compliance requirements preferred. Knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and regulations preferred. Approach all work activities with a customer service focus. Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables), and Outlook. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
