Overview

The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for identifying organizational development needs, developing and delivering training programs, assessing results, monitoring progress, and sustaining learning and development programs across all locations of the company to engage and develop a diverse workforce. This position collaborates with multiple departments and external learning industry partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate the Company’s training and professional development needs, manage all corporate training & development projects, and design and develop corporate training programs to meet organizational goals.
  • Assess audience demographics and identify the appropriate learning solutions to meet the business needs, including: instructor led, blended, experiential, media based, performance support, and other emerging technologies.
  • Responsible for identifying and maintaining the employee learning functions, training software, LMS and HRIS talent management.
  • Responsible for the design, development, presentation and evaluation of leadership training programs designed for talent development and core employee training.
  • Lead the design for all instructor-led training for the Company, providing oversight for the LMS platform, development of participant guides, exercises and job aids.
  • Support new hire onboarding and orientation making continuous improvements based on manager and employee feedback.
  • Oversee administration of new employee training requirements and ensure class completion records are updated and certifications are completed when necessary.
  • Provide oversight and guidance related to the company performance management, career development and succession planning processes. Work with leadership to develop and implement training plans to support these programs to increase employee engagement and development.
  • Facilitate certification program classes when necessary to ensure employee competencies in a variety of policies, procedures and systems are being met using external consultants when needed.
  • Develop partnerships with schools and other community resources and represent the company in community or industry groups to enhance training programs and recruiting.
  • Identify possible mentorship and/or on-the-job training programs.
  • Identify and coordinate any grant funding opportunities for training including MN Job Skills Partnership (MJSP).
  • Develop training metrics and present action plans and training results to leadership.
  • Ensure training deliverables align with company strategies, goals and initiatives, including diversity and inclusion.
  • Participate in and coordinate training needs for projects with other departments throughout the organization.
  • Partner with the Human Resources Directors and senior management to develop and drive strategic workforce plans, processes and develop the workplace culture.
  • Assists with various Human Resource projects as needed.

Education: Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Communication, Education/Training, Adult Education, Communications, Business or a related field

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in Learning & Development or Training in a mid-size company; in manufacturing industry preferred
  • Proven experience as a Learning & Development Manager, Training Manager or similar
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods
  • Proficient in Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Experience in education/instructional design with the ability to develop instructional materials for multiple delivery methodologies
  • Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD), Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or similar, related professional certification preferred
  • Experience designing and building training programs and providing oversight of talent development initiatives.

Skills:

  • Experience in training, development, learning capacity, or related functions with knowledge of methods for instructional design, multimedia training and adult learning theories.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives concurrently.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and collaborate with all levels of the organization to identify/define training solutions for business needs.
  • Ability to build relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workload and pivot when needed.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently while exercising good judgment, initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in utilizing computer systems and software with the ability to continuously learn new software applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Creative change management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Google Docs, LMS, HRIS.
