The Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area is hiring for Camp Counselors and we are excited to have you join our team! As a Camp Counselor, you will lead camp activities for children ages 3-12. Work cooperatively with a group of 3-4 counselors to provide quality programming for a unit of 20-30 campers. Participate in all camp program areas including, but not limited to, recreation, swimming, arts & crafts, sports, special events, and theme related activities. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead activities as determined by the Camp Director.
• Assist in maintaining accurate program records including attendance, incident reports, meal counts, and more.
• Participate in unit planning, working with other counselors and the Lead Counselor.
• Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with camp.
• Ensure that camp areas are kept clean and free of litter.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Supervise small groups of 10-15 campers independently and assist in the supervision of large groups of 25-30 campers.
• Attend special events as assigned and represent the YMCA as a responsible and professional counselor.
• Observe and enforce all association procedures, including but not limited to the Child Abuse Prevention Policy, Code of Conduct, and risk management procedures.
• Maintain proper appearance adhering to the dress code set forth in the Glens Falls YMCA Personnel Policy and the Day Camp Staff handbook.
• Be prepared to change group assignments with little or no advanced notice in order to maintain proper counselor to camper ratios.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Experience working with children required.
• Good interpersonal skills with children, coworkers, and the ability to provide guidance through example required.
• Be a positive role model and mentor for campers, demonstrate good moral character, and incorporate the YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty into all programs.
• Obtain/maintain CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
