POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Saddle Rock Ranch Manager, the Ranch Assistant is responsible for the general care, feeding, watering and stall maintenance of horses and stalls assigned within the saddle rock program.

Responsibilities

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Cleans horse facilities stalls, aisle areas, paddocks, yard, tack rooms, etc. and ensures that muck buckets on property are dumped.
  • Responsible for cleaning and filling water stalls and paddocks as needed.
  • Responsible for reporting any illnesses, injuries, lameness, general farrier needs in boarded or program horses to the management of the program.
  • Responsible for reporting any necessary emergency veterinary and farrier care to the management. If the management can not be reached, Ranch Assistant is responsible to call boarder or veterinarian / farrier directly.
  • Responsible for carrying out any necessary equine first aid or ongoing treatments as directed.
  • Assists in preparing lesson horses when requested.
  • Assists in maintenance and care of lesson tack in coordination with Ranch Manager.
  • Keeps field office clean and neat, including but not limited to emptying garbage and taking garbage to the street.
  • Responsible for safe turnout and bringing in of all horses including use of throat latch on halters and closing driveway gate during these times.

Responsible for securing gates if on property before 8 : 00am or after 5 : 00 pm. Checks that there are no injuries or lost shoes.

  • Responsible for addressing or reporting any unsafe activities to the management.
  • Interacts with boarders regarding barn policies and horse care in a polite and professional manner.
  • Responsible for daily care (feeding, water, paddock care, of other farm animals such as cats, goats, donkey, etc.
  • Monitors / works with individuals in horse care activities to ensure a safe and productive experience for the consumer and the horses.
  • Reports ongoing problems and suggest solutions to improve working environment / conditions.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with co-workers, management, clinicians, and collateral providers.
  • Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed / processed appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
