Families Together is Hiring a Grants and Communications Specialist Near Raleigh, NC

Job Title: Grants and Communications Specialist

Manager: Development Manager

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Responsibilities: Grant writing, foundation relations, grant prospecting, and communications

OVERVIEW:

Families Together is a community-based non-profit dedicated to ending family homelessness in Wake and surrounding counties. We believe every family deserves a home and children should never have to wonder where they’re going to sleep at night.

The overarching philosophy of our Development and Communications Program is to take a donor-centric approach through relationship building and effective storytelling that aims to build a compassionate community of supporters led by donors and volunteers who share our dedication and passion for making our community better for all. The Grant Writer (GW) has an important role in implementing a growth strategy under the direction of the Development Manager and Executive Director with primary responsibilities of grant writing, foundation relations, and grant prospecting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a member of the Development team
  • Maintain foundation and grants management software and tracking sheets; ensure deadlines are met
  • Draft, edit and proof grant applications, proposals, LOIs and reports
  • Maintain electronic shared files and hard copy files related to grant submissions and grant-related attachments
  • Work with Finance Team to ensure grants are accounted for appropriately for financial tracking and budgeting
  • Work with management team to identify the strategic, programmatic and tactical needs that may be appropriate for grant support
  • Research and identify new grant opportunities; prioritize and present qualified recommendations to Development Manager
  • Cultivate and solicit new corporate and foundation prospects; support the stewardship of existing foundation funders to ensure their continued support
  • Work with leadership team on government grant submissions including attending information sessions, writing, and reporting.
  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with grant, foundation, and corporate contacts
  • Assist with the development of communications strategies that align with a storytelling approach
  • Draft print and digital content 
  • Interview families, volunteers and donors and write compelling human-interest stories in support of our mission for utilization in grant applications and other communications.

Additional Support

  • Work with Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator to ensure corporate and foundation sponsors are appropriately acknowledged on social media (Facebook, twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and our website.
  • Provide Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator with suggestions on volunteer outreach potential from our funding organizations
  • Research grants management software to assess organizational ability to enhance, improve, and make our tracking process more efficient

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Minimum two years of experience in non-profit grant writing
  • Demonstrated track record procuring 5-figure and above grants
  • Highly organized, deadline-oriented and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to excel working within a team approach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office and internet/email tools is essential
  • Independent worker, self-motivated with ability to multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and meet deadlines
  • Passion for the Families Together mission

Background and Experience Required:

  • College graduate
  • 3 years of professional experience
  • Non-profit experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Government grant experience a plus

Compensation:

Annual salary of $50-52k. The position includes health benefits, paid time off, paid holidays, and a 403b retirement plan. 

Schedule/Location/Office Environment:

  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Occasional weekend and evening work required
  • Occasional local travel is required – must have clean driving record and ability to drive personal and agency vehicle for work related activities
  • Shared office environment
  • Families Together office is located at: 908 Plainview Drive, Raleigh, NC
  • ADA compliant office setting
  • Must have a clean driving record and ability to drive personal and agency vehicle if necessary
  • Hybrid position with minimum of two days in the office
