Job Descriptions Early Learning Specialist Coalition for Children

Reports To: CFCE Coordinator

Title: Early Learning Specialist

10-15 hours per week

Position Summary: The Early Learning Specialist's responsibility is to provide developmentally appropriate, early literacy-rich experiences including facilitating play and learning groups for young children and their families (0-6). The Early Learning Specialists enhance and foster positive relationships between parents and children. Provide community outreach, resources, ASQ assessments, and information on early learning and development. These programs will provide a fun and creative way to connect with other families in the community and to better understand early childhood development, family literacy, and school readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Early Childhood Associate Degree
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in early childhood, parenting programs, or social work
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, and/or working with families
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with ethnically and economically diverse communities
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with other individuals and agencies
  • Ability to be independent and be a team member
  • Valid Driver's license and own transportation

Responsibilities:

  • Plan a variety of early learning and early literacy activities for children and their families.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills and feel comfortable leading activities in front of a group. 
  • Set up, prepare supplies, facilitate, and clean up playgroups.
  • Be organized and prepared for each playgroup.
  • Attend a monthly staff meeting. 
  • Be able to create a warm and welcoming environment building rapport with each family and understanding others' perspectives, needs, concerns, and culture.
  • Provide and collect sign-in sheets of all participants and send them weekly to the coordinator along with playgroup facilitator time sheets. 
  • Communicate with families in a positive nonjudgmental manner. 
  • Model reading, facilitate conversation, and promote developmentally appropriate play activities for parents.
  • Conduct and assist families with ASQ developmental screening.
  • Demonstrate a continuing commitment to professional growth. 
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding information that families share.
  • Be a resource for families by coaching and modeling.
  • Provide skills in both working collaboratively and independently.
  • Mandated reporter.
  • Assist families by providing referrals and access to community resources.
  • Maintain attendance, registration, evaluations, and other forms.
  • Participate in professional development training and represent the Coalition for Children and Falmouth Public Schools at community events.
  • Participate in a weekly supervisory meeting by phone or in person with the coordinator. 
  • Have skilled relationship-building with individuals and families while maintaining appropriate boundaries, respecting family choice, and cultural competency.
  • Assist in recruiting and enrolling program participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the coordinator.

Salary and Terms of Employment: $21.00 per hour, part-time hours. This is a grant-funded position school.
