Fall River Public Schools is Hiring a Long Term Substitute - ESL Near River, MA

The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:

Position: English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Job Description: To deliver high quality and rigorous instruction aimed at accelerating English language learning, exposing students to content vocabulary, and preparing English Language Learners to move towards proficiency of the English language.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Educates linguistically diverse students.
  2. Teaches ESL to students utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  3. Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
  4. Has a working knowledge of WIDA and Common Core Standards.
  5. Evaluates each student’s progress in the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.
  6. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  8. Participates in professional development activities consistent with the districts goals and needs of English Language Learners.
  9. All other responsibilities that are listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Fall River Educators’ Association and the Fall River School Committee.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Possess a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language (ESL), additional specific content areas preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a Second Language or a related field.
  3. Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching English Language Learners as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  4. Demonstrated success in developing English language proficiency of English Language Learners.
  5. Experience in curriculum development for ESL/ELL classes.

The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.

Reports To: Principal/ MLL Director

Terms of Employment: In accordance with the Fall River Educators Contract. Continued employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding.
