REPORTS TO: Director of Expanded Learning


Position Summary:

The Director of Summer Program Instruction collaborates closely with the Director of Expanded Learning to plan and execute the summer academic vision. With a deep understanding of the value of hands-on learning, this role involves direct support for Summer Academic Coaches. The Director of Summer Program Instruction manages the Summer Academic Coaches, ensuring the successful implementation of academic and enrichment programming. The ideal candidate is passionate about pushing student learning in both academic and enrichment areas.


About Education for Change Public Schools

Founded in 2005, Education forChange (EFC) is a charter management organization that was created as a partnership between Oakland Unified School District and the education reform community in order to leverage the flexibilities in charter law to facilitate greater innovation and to address the underperformance of our most vulnerable student populations. EFC is Oakland’s largest charter operator, serving over 2,700 students in the Fruitvale and Elmhurst neighborhoods of East Oakland. Five of six of our schools were formerly OUSD schools that converted to EFC to leverage the flexibility and agility provided by charter law for greater outcomes for our students.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Academic Vision Planning:Work collaboratively with the Director of Expanded Learning to shape and execute the summer academic vision. Develop strategies to enhance hands-on learning experiences and academic enrichment.
  • Team Management: Manage and support Summer Academic Coaches, providing guidance and resources for effective coaching and program implementation. Conduct regular check-ins and professional development sessions for coaching staff.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with Academic Coaches to plan and implement high-leverage instructional strategies across classrooms. Collaborate with other program leaders to ensure seamless integration of academic and enrichment activities.
  • Professional Development: Design and deliver professional development sessions for Academic Coaches, focusing on effective coaching, hands-on learning, and academic enrichment. Stay abreast of the latest educational trends and methodologies to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Collaborate with Academic Coaches to lead academic data meetings with Academic Content Facilitators. Analyze data to identify areas of improvement and implement targeted strategies to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Equity in Education: Work with the Director of Expanded Learning to implement equitable practices in summer academic programming. Ensure that all students have access to a high-quality and inclusive learning experience.
  • Program Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of academic and enrichment programs through ongoing assessments and feedback. Implement improvements based on evaluation results and feedback from coaches, facilitators, and students.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Facilitate communication between Academic Coaches and stakeholders to keep all parties informed about program objectives and student progress.
  • Other tasks as assigned or necessary for program success.


About You

  • Proven experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of hands-on learning and innovative teaching methods.
  • Experience in team management and professional development.
  • Knowledge of equity in education and strategies to address achievement gaps.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
  • Previous experience in summer camps or educational environments is advantageous.


Requirements:

Department of Justice clearance based on fingerprinting submission.

  • Proof of TB test within the last four years.


Work Schedule

40 hours, 5 days/week.

Work Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm.

Pre-Work Start Date: March 2, 2024

Summer Start Date: June 10, 2024 (Staff training week is full time 8:00-4:30 pm)

The person is on call daily to support operations from 7:00am-3:30pm.
