REPORTS TO: Director of Expanded Learning


Position Summary

The Cafeteria/Outdoor Lead serves as the point person for the cafeteria and outdoor areas within the summer program. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, this role is responsible for ensuring that the cafeteria and outdoor spaces maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety. The Cafeteria/Outdoor Lead oversees support staff in these areas, coordinating their efforts to create a welcoming and secure environment for students and staff.


About Education for Change Public Schools

Founded in 2005, Education forChange (EFC) is a charter management organization that was created as a partnership between Oakland Unified School District and the education reform community in order to leverage the flexibilities in charter law to facilitate greater innovation and to address the underperformance of our most vulnerable student populations. EFC is Oakland’s largest charter operator, serving over 2,700 students in the Fruitvale and Elmhurst neighborhoods of East Oakland. Five of six of our schools were formerly OUSD schools that converted to EFC to leverage the flexibility and agility provided by charter law for greater outcomes for our students.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Cafeteria Management: Supervise and coordinate cafeteria staff to ensure efficient meal service during the summer program. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the cafeteria, including proper food handling procedures.
  • Outdoor Area Oversight: Manage and oversee outdoor spaces, ensuring they are well-maintained, safe, and conducive to various activities. Coordinate with relevant staff to set up and organize outdoor events and activities.
  • Staff Supervision: Lead and supervise support staff working in the cafeteria and outdoor areas. Under the guidance of the Operations Coordinator, Conduct regular check-ins, provide training as needed, and address any performance issues promptly.
  • Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce safety protocols for both the cafeteria and outdoor spaces. Conduct regular safety inspections and address potential hazards to ensure a secure environment.
  • Inventory and Supplies: Manage inventory of cafeteria supplies and outdoor equipment. Coordinate with the Operations Coordinator to order supplies and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Collaboration with Operations Coordinator: Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to align cafeteria and outdoor area activities with overall program objectives. Provide regular updates on the status of cafeteria and outdoor operations.
  • Communication: Maintain open and clear communication with cafeteria staff, outdoor support personnel, and other relevant stakeholders. Facilitate effective communication channels between the cafeteria, outdoor areas, and the broader program team.
  • Problem Resolution: Address any issues or concerns related to the cafeteria and outdoor areas promptly and effectively. Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator to develop solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Event Support: Collaborate with event planners and other program leaders to support events that involve the cafeteria or outdoor spaces. Ensure logistical support for activities such as outdoor games, picnics, and special events.


About You

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in hospitality, facility management, or a related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience in cafeteria or outdoor area management.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and hygiene standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Previous experience in a school-based or summer camp environment is advantageous.


Requirements:

Department of Justice clearance based on fingerprinting submission.

  • Proof of TB test within the last four years.


Work Schedule

40 hours, 5 days/week.

Work Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm.

Summer Start Date: June 11, 2024 (Staff training week is full time 8:00-4:30 pm)

Last Program Date: July 19, 2024

Must be able to work full program
