Wage Range: $71,552 - $114,441 per year
Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. For jobs with more than one level, the posted range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Some positions also offer additional premiums based on shift, certifications or degrees. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, level of education and internal equity.
Job Summary:
Provides leadership to the Health Information Management (HIM) operational staff, under the direction of HIM leadership. Facilitates a work environment that meets individual and organizational needs and develops goals to achieve best practice performance and financial goals. Within specified areas of responsibility, works in partnership with physicians, nursing leadership and other managers across the organization and within the community EvergreenHealth serves to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of clinical information being available in the appropriate medium. Serves as a HIM representative to other departments within EvergreenHealth. Provides regular coverage as a Health Informatics Analyst by assisting with and performing job duties of this role as needed.
Primary Duties:
1. Supervises HIM work to ensure timely and accurate updates to the electronic medical record and document management systems.
2. In conjunction with HIM management, coordinates work and tracks progress to ensure accomplishments of goals and objectives within a prescribed time frame and scope. Communicates with team members to ensure deliverables are met and the project is on schedule. Tracks project issues, prepares status reports for leadership and stakeholders.
3. Works to determine the needs and requirements for clinical applications in acute, ambulatory, and home care settings utilized in the HIM department.
4. Oversees the quality of work performed by assigned HIM Department staff and assists personnel in determining appropriate workload. Works with HIM management to address employee skill/comprehension issues.
5. Completes annual individual staff performance reviews.
6. Coordinates training and orienting new HIM staff.
7. Collaborates closely with, and communicates between, HIM leadership and the clinical community to provide leadership for initiatives and day-to-day operations of HIM workflows, including handling complaints and problems as needed.
8. Partners with Medical Staff Office as needed to ensure completeness of medical records to meet JC standards and compliance with Evergreen Medical staff rules and regulations.
9. Acts as a point person for assigned areas, which may include the Epic EMR, the OnBase document management system, Physician Documentation Quality Committee, Safety Huddles, Deficiency Analysis, Chart Correction, Patient record merging, Signoff on Release of Information Certifications, Coordinating Safelinq investigation, responding to audits, facilitating, or participating in Forms Committee, and other processes as assigned.
10. Functions as an expert resource to staff by anticipating and identifying educational, procedural, and functional problems associated with the EMR, Document management system and workflows within HIM.
11. Coordinates & participates in HIM system enhancement requests and defect reporting, working with IT and the vendor as needed.
12. Ensures assigned staff follow regulatory standards for HIM and the EMR.
13. Assists in the development of policies and procedures for use by HIM department.
14. Ensures coverage for vacations, sick, leaves and other needs.
15. Provides regular coverage as a Health Informatics Analyst by assisting with and performing job duties of this role as needed.
16. Performs other duties as assigned
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
o One of the following is required:
RHIA degree and credentialed or eligible for credentialing as an RHIA professional within six months of hire
RHIT degree and credentialed or eligible for credentialing as an RHIT professional within six months of hire
Masters of Health Administration and Certified Healthcare Data Analyst (CHDA) certification
Masters of Health Administration and Certified Professional in Health Informatics (CPHI) certification
Bachelor’s degree in any field, two years of experience working in Health Information Management and currently enrolled at least half time in a Masters of Health Administration program
o Three years of direct HIM work experience in an acute care/ambulatory/home care setting, with 2 years as an analyst.
o Previous supervisory, lead or other leadership experience
o Previous experience with health information management systems and workflows
o Strong knowledge of systems analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications/workflows
o Knowledge of Cerner, McKesson, Epic or other EMR, and Document Storage solutions
o Familiarity with current IT security standards, applicable privacy laws, JCAHO accreditation standards
o Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides.
o Knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of workflows
o Broad knowledge of hospital operations and associated technologies
o Ability to communicate effectively, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Requires strong customer service, organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, co-workers, staff, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
o Ability to lead and recommend documentation strategy changes to meet current, regulations, safety, and quality trends.
o Adept at training staff to adopt new workflows and tools, requiring strong knowledge of change management.
o Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
o Requires a high degree of attention to detail.
