As Essence Preparatory Assistant Principal of Instruction (API), you are a campus leader and ed reformer with a relentless commitment to foster a school environment of high expectations and support for students. You will manage, coach, and develop teachers to achieve bold results with students. You will support the development of systems and protocols to ensure that academic achievement and school culture consistently reflects the core values and academic goals of Essence Preparatory.

You will be challenged to meet the following accountabilities:

1. Assist in the formulation of campus goals and objectives addressing the needs of students.
2. Plan, participate, and/or lead professional development sessions for staff
3. Coordinate school-wide programs that recognize positive student behavior and restorative practices.
4. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission, core values, and core habits of the school district.
5. Hold high expectations for self and others
6. Lead instructional staff to achieve measurable and ambitious results
7. Lead instructional staff to improve their teaching quickly and measurably through daily observations, on-the-spot coaching, data conversations, and effective evaluations
8. Supervise the implementation of Essence Preparatory curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
9. Review teachers’ weekly lesson plans and provides feedback
10. Synthesize, analyze, and prioritize data and opportunities to develop strategies that achieve quantifiable goals
11. Proactively identify opportunities to improve and consistently reflect on past actions to guide future decisions
12. Communicate students’ progress with student and family
13. Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify
14. Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve teacher development, student achievement, and manage work-related tasks
15. Support the creation and implementation of a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense of community
16. Help shape and develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
17. Oversee campus-based tutoring sessions
18. Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions
19. Engage in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development
20. Minimum of 40 hours spent at school per week
21. Volunteering to recruit students and families
22. Additional responsibilities may include after-school tutoring, or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our scholars
1. Manage a team of teachers and associate teachers
2. Champion and model Essence Preparatory core values and habits in adult culture
3. Champion and model Essence Preparatory ’s talent philosophies
4. Coach talent to build technical and leadership capacity
5. Help select, onboard, evaluate, and retain talent in the right roles
6. Collaborates with talent team on hiring, engagement, development, and retention across roles
7. Coach and develop team members on performance frameworks via 1:1 check-ins and frequent observations and feedback sessions
1. A Bachelor’s degree required
2. At least 3 years of full-time teaching experience with proficient results
3. Teacher leadership or administrative experience required
4. Proven track record of achieving success in the K-12 setting
5. Ability to instruct students and guide restorative student practices
6. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
