POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Philanthropy plays a crucial role at Envision Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind by leading the execution of strategies to cultivate and secure support from individual and institutional donors. This position is pivotal in driving philanthropic contributions and building long-term relationships with key stakeholders to support the mission and programs of the organization. The Director will executive daily fundraising tasks and personalized outreach to expand the donor base and ensure sustainable funding for the Dallas, TX location. With a focus on impact and community engagement, the Director, Philanthropy, will supervise the Outreach Manager and ensure all team activities are focused on cultivating and securing funds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Strategy Execution: Direct the implementation of fundraising strategies designed to cultivate and secure support from both individual and institutional donors, ensuring alignment with Envision Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind's mission and programmatic needs.
Fundraising Implementation: Execute daily fundraising activities, employing traditional and innovative approaches to attract new donors and maintain existing relationships. This includes creating fundraising campaigns, grant writing, event planning, and digital fundraising efforts.
Donor Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with donors and key stakeholders through personalized outreach, regular communication, and targeted engagement strategies. Ensure that all interactions foster long-term support and commitment to the organization.
Team Leadership and Supervision: Oversee the Outreach Manager, setting clear objectives and monitoring performance to ensure all activities are effectively contributing to the organization's fundraising goals. Provide mentorship and support, fostering professional growth and development.
Community Engagement: Enhance the organization's presence and visibility within the community through strategic engagement initiatives. Represent Envision Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind at community events, conferences, and public speaking engagements to raise awareness and generate support.
Donor Stewardship: Implement a comprehensive donor stewardship program that acknowledges contributions in meaningful ways, communicates the impact of donations, and cultivates a culture of appreciation and respect among donors.
Financial Management and Reporting: Collaborate with the foundation teams to track fundraising progress, manage budgets related to philanthropic activities, and ensure financial accountability. Prepare and present regular reports detailing fundraising achievements, challenges, and strategic adjustments.
Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with other departments within Envision to integrate fundraising initiatives with broader organizational goals. Encourage a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization by engaging staff in fundraising efforts and mission advocacy.
Compliance and Ethics: Ensure all fundraising activities adhere to legal standards, ethical practices, and organizational policies. Stay informed about changes in fundraising regulations and best practices to maintain compliance and integrity.
Strategic Partnerships and Networking: Actively seek and develop partnerships with businesses, foundations, and community organizations to expand funding opportunities. Leverage professional networks to increase visibility and support for Envision Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind.
Performance Evaluation and Improvement: Participate in the regular assessment of the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and activities and help in making data-driven decisions to improve outcomes. Incorporate feedback and lessons learned into future planning to enhance fundraising efforts continuously.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
Education: Bachelor's degree required
Experience: Minimum of 6 years proven experience in fundraising/development or sales as well as managerial/administrative oversight. Related experience may be substituted.
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of donor database management systems.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with donors, volunteers and the public with diplomacy, discretion, and customer-service orientation.
