Job Description Summary

The Data Analytics and Reporting (DAR) team at Enterprise helps more efficiently and effectively achieve our mission by driving the organization's data strategy, analyzing, and reporting on organizational performance, and partnering with our business and IT partners to strengthen internal data systems.
We are hiring a Director of Data Engineering to grow our data engineering practice and implement foundational pillars of Enterprise's long-term data strategy, including our first enterprise data warehouse. This is an exciting leadership opportunity at a time when the organization is making unprecedented investments to grow our data practices and infrastructure.
The Director of Data Engineering must have proven experience in developing and managing an engineering team and implementing enterprise-scale solutions in a multi-faceted organization. They must be a champion for using data to advance Enterprise's mission, have experience prioritizing and delivering business use cases, and passionate about cross-functional collaboration. The position reports to the Sr. Director for Data Analytics and Reporting under the office of the Chief Operating Officer.
Our data environment is currently under development, and we are in the process of migrating fully to Azure Cloud, utilizing SQL Server, Boomi Integrations, Azure Synapse, PowerBI, and other monitoring and governance tools.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our Enterprise Architect, members of our Information Technology (IT) department, and consultants to develop and implement an enterprise-scale data architecture and help execute our long-term data strategy.
  • Lead and manage the DAR data engineering team, currently including a Sr. Data Engineer, to scale and standardize our engineering practice. Hire and manage consultants and offshore resources, as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with other professionals in the Data Analytics and Reporting department, including our data governance and analytics staff.
  • Design and implement scalable data infrastructure, optimize data delivery, and automate manual data processes.
  • Oversee ETL and integration processes and develop reusable frameworks for data ingestion/exchange.
  • Define and maintain quality review and documentation standards for the data engineering team.
  • Implement and adhere to security standards and data privacy policies of Enterprise.
  • Maintain timely communication with internal business partners, department, and division leadership.
  • Manage, coach or mentor internal personnel and contribute to professional development opportunities for members of the team.
  • Keep up to date on the latest technology and trends in the field of data management and data engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of professional experience in data analytics, data engineering, or related fields, with a proven record of implementing enterprise-scale data solutions.
  • 2 years' experience managing data engineering or related teams.
  • Experience in designing and deploying data platforms on Azure and the Microsoft stack.
  • Expertise designing and managing SQL databases, including performance management, scaling, and optimization.
  • Expertise in data warehousing concepts and best practices including star schema data-warehouses.
  • Experience with connecting & building APIs, workflow management, ETL development, Python, and DevOps pipeline tools.
  • Understanding of information management principles and practices (i.e. business intelligence, data warehousing, data architecture, data integration, data quality, data governance, data security, master data and meta data)
  • Ability to simplify and clearly communicate complex information to stakeholders outside the data team.
  • Excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy and quality of work.
  • Adaptable and collaborative, with experience working with diverse, multi-functional teams, virtually or in-person.
  • Curiosity, desire for self-improvement, passion for social equity, and excitement about sharing new skills and knowledge.

Additional Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Synapsis, MSSQL Management Studio
  • Experience managing Microsoft Azure subscriptions.
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with connecting to and managing Salesforce data.
  • Experience with connecting to and managing Workday ERP/HCM
  • Experience building and deploying pub/sub integrations using Boomi or other PaaS platforms.
  • Experience with Yardi property management software.

The base salary for this role is $146,000 to $160,000, depending on level of skills and experience.

The salary range for this position is represented by the low and high end of the range for the amount to be paid for the position. Salaries paid at Enterprise will vary based on factors that may include skills, education, location, experience, and performance. The salary range is just a part of the total rewards package provided to employees at Enterprise, and other rewards may include annual performance bonuses and generous paid leave programs.
