Engine Research Foundation is Hiring a Policy Analyst Near Washington, DC

We welcome all qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or political affiliation. We are committed to building a diverse organization where employees can gain experience that will serve them for the rest of their careers.

Policy Analyst (Washington, D.C.)

Engine is looking to add a new member to our policy team to help formulate and advocate for pro-startup, pro-innovation policies. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be exposed to all of the issues Engine works on—including intellectual property, telecommunications, privacy, and more—while gaining experience in legislative tracking at the state and federal levels and developing an expertise in one or two areas.

As Engine’s Policy Analyst, you will:

  • Work closely with Engine staff to develop strategy and to shape Engine’s take on a wide range of policy issues;

  • Monitor and provide analysis of policy proposals and conversations at the state and federal levels that would impact the startup ecosystem;

  • Communicate Engine’s positions to policymakers and their staff, including through meetings, written regulatory comments, and statements;

  • Work with Engine’s grassroots team to find, engage, and educate startups on emerging policy issues;

  • Represent Engine in public and in working with allies.

The candidate:

  • Must have demonstrated interest in the intersection of policy and entrepreneurship;

  • Must have the ability to work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle;

  • Must be willing and able to develop expertise in new policy areas with limited direct guidance;

  • Must be a self-starter;

  • Must be able to write clearly and compellingly (including in Engine’s weekly newsletters, blog posts, op-eds, social media, comments to federal agencies, letters to Congress, and research projects);

  • Must work well with and coordinate large coalition groups with disparate interests.

Pluses:

  • Recent experience working for a policymaker;

  • Experience working on policy issues relevant to the startup ecosystem, including telecommunications and intellectual property;

  • Political or startup/VC experience.

Please send a cover letter explaining your interest in the position and a resume to careers@engine.is. Reference “Policy Analyst” in the subject line.

Engine partners with the Stand Together Foundation to facilitate internships. If you’re interested in interning at Engine in the summer or during the spring or fall semester, please see the Stand Together Foundation program page or email careers@engine.is.

We welcome all qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or political affiliation. We are committed to building a diverse organization where employees can gain experience that will serve them for the rest of their careers.
