Empowering People’s Independence (EPI) provides support for people with developmental disabilities, epilepsy, and brain injury through progressive, tailored care to improve their health, wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion.
Job Purpose:
The primary function of this role is to assist in the maintenance of a harmonious work environment to include effective problem resolution related to employee matters to include via counseling, coaching supervisors, conducting investigations, assist with policy interpretation, monitor the Employee Hotline,
and assist with training related issues related to investigation outcomes.
Essential Functions
Employee Relations:
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for all employees.
  • Investigate and resolve assigned employee concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Support supervisors with progressive discipline process.
  • Effectively communicate HR policies.
  • Provide employees with appropriate company resources as needed.
  • Assist HR representatives with interviews related to background checks and other matters.
  • Assist with current employee-based programs to support the company’s Strategic Plan.
  • Assist with the development of programs that proactively address employee relation issues.
Record Keeping:
  • Maintain records on all investigations in a separate, confidential shared file according to HR Retention Protocols.
Provide monthly report on employee data to include but not limited to; Active employee count
Turnover & Retention
Effectiveness of employee programs
Customer Service:
  • Must deliver top-notch service while always maintaining professional composure.
  • Escalate issues to CHRO and/or designee as needed.
Other:
  • May serve on established and/or ad hoc employee committees or project teams as time permits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Benefits Manager and/or designee within scope of practice.

Adhere to all company and departmental policies & procedures and ensure employee compliance, to include annual regulatory learnings at time of hire and annually.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, with minimum of five (5) years’ experience in HR Generalist/Manager role or related degree with 7 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law, NYS DOL and federal law required and ability to learn additional regulations to include Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and Department of Health (DOH).
  • PHR preferred, but not required.
Computer Knowledge:
  • HRIS & LMS knowledge & experience a plus!
  • Microsoft Suite to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
Supervision:
  • None
Qualifications:
  • Able to communicate effectively to include strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must complete required training per OPWDD within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications annually thereafter.
  • Must be receptive to feedback; willing and interested in continuous improvement and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit professional demeanor in dealing with others (both internal and external customers and colleagues); maintain constructive working relationships; use poise, tact, and diplomacy, during difficult and/or stressful situations.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, and customer requests, while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively work independently & collaboratively in a team environment.
Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License; a vehicle is required for business travel.

  • Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods of time; may have to twist, bend, use hand to finger, stretch with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, ability to see color & ability to adjust focus.
  • May be exposed to changing office temperatures and weather conditions when driving.
Pay Rate: $24.04 - $28.85
