Position Summary:
As the Licensing Specialist under the Compliance Manager's guidance at Empower, you play a pivotal role in upholding our compliance standards within the dynamic landscape of the pharmaceutical industry. Your expertise is crucial in managing the intricate processes of provider and facility licensing, ensuring that our 503A Pharmacy and 503B Outsourcing Facility operations remain aligned with the stringent requirements set forth by regulatory authorities such as the DEA and State Boards of Pharmacy.
Your responsibility extends beyond routine licensure maintenance; it involves a proactive approach to understanding and navigating the complexities of state and federal regulations. By effectively collaborating with both internal teams and external partners, you ensure that Empower's licensing framework is robust, up-to-date, and capable of supporting our mission to provide quality, affordable medication. Your role is integral to the seamless operation of our facilities, directly impacting our ability to innovate and deliver exceptional service in the healthcare sector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements robust procedures for the approval of customer accounts, ensuring all processes comply with regulatory guidelines and Empower's high standards, while also managing the lifecycle of facility licenses to maintain active status and timely renewal
  • Reviews and assesses customer documentation for service eligibility and verifies facility compliance with FDA, DEA, 503A, and 503B requirements, ensuring all approvals align with established policies and regulatory mandates
  • Acts as the primary liaison between Empower and external licensing firms, managing the submission of new license applications and the renewal of existing licenses, ensuring effective communication and accurate submissions
  • Regularly verifies and updates the licensure status of both providers and facilities, maintaining effective communication channels for gathering and updating licensing information as required
  • Maintains meticulous records of provider and facility licensure, ensuring documentation is organized, accessible, and compliant with company policies and regulatory standards
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, including Quality Assurance, Operations, and Legal departments, to gather necessary documents for license applications and renewals, ensuring a collaborative approach to compliance
  • Prepares and submits detailed reports to track approval trends for both provider and facility licenses, identifies opportunities for process enhancements, and contributes to the continuous improvement of the licensing workflow
  • Implements processes to ensure timely and accurate adherence to licensing standards, including the preparation of regular reports summarizing licensure statuses, potential issues, and upcoming renewals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Familiarity with state and federal licensing regulations and requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently to manage work tasks effectively

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Texas Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Proven experience in a licensing or compliance-related role, preferably in the healthcare industry
