Position Summary
The Finance & Grants Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, grant management, day-to-day financial operations, and audit support. The ideal candidate will have a background in nonprofit financial management and love spreadsheets!
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
Develop and monitor annual organizational and program budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director & Operations Director.
Provide regular financial reports and updates to the Executive Director and Board Finance Committee.
Manage the collection of payments due to the organization from promised honoraria, grants or other sources.
Grant Management:
Work closely with the Executive Director to develop the financial components of grant proposals.
Manage the financial aspects of grants, including budget development, tracking expenditures, and reporting to funders.
Ensure compliance with grant requirements and timely submission of financial reports.
Oversee the spend down of multiple grants, keeping staff up to date on funds that need to be spent.
Transaction Management:
Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data and records.
Enter financial transactions into QuickBooks Online.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring proper coding and documentation.
Allocate payroll expenses to multiple Projects in QuickBooks Online based on grant budgets.
Work with external accounting firm to generate monthly financial Board reports.
Audit & 990 Support:
With support from the Operations Director, coordinate the yearly audit process, working closely with external accounting firm to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.
Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and facilitate the resolution of any audit-related issues.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit finance management.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in grants management, including budgeting and reports
Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
Experience with payroll allocations and audit support.
Benefits:
This is a full-time, exempt level position, eligible for full benefits. Empower DC covers 100% of the costs of health, dental and vision insurance. Empower DC annually contributes 2.5% of each full-time employee’s salary to a retirement benefit plan. Employees accrue 10 days of vacation leave, 10 days sick leave, two personal days and all federal holidays. Our office is also closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. After each five-year anniversary with Empower DC, an employee is entitled to one month of paid leave as a thank you for long-time service, and as a time to refresh and rejuvenate. During the pandemic employees also receive a monthly $100 telework stipend.
