Responsibilities

APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER III

• Leads the design and implementation of a variety of computing facilities including high performance computing clusters or grid computing environments, hierarchical mass storage systems, and 3D visualization suites
• Leads the design of software tools and subsystems to support software reuse and domain analyses and manages their implementation
• Manages software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools
• Researches commercial and open source hardware and software
• Designs system configurations and procedures
• Installs and maintains operating systems and software
• Develops user interfaces
• Performs software, hardware, and networking diagnostics
• Manages a high performance cluster running Linux, maintains a Linux cluster management software suite, and supports the users of several clusters
• Recommends, tests and supports in-house, commercial or third-party application software in support of research goals of the laboratory
• Leads projects involving other team members, provides technical expertise for, and coordinates with other laboratory staff to ensure that system upgrades and installations cause minimal disruption for users
• Integrates and administers Linux/UNIX kernels and software packages
• Maintains technical currency and contacts within the HPC community
• Maintains detailed knowledge of HPC products in the marketplace, including hardware and software such as operating systems, security features, peripherals, applications, and file systems
• Ensures that information and network systems are operated, managed, secured and used in accordance with local security policies and procedures and Customer requirements

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience
• At least two (2) years experience in UNIX (Linux) operating systems in a Beowulf cluster environment

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• III: 4 – 9 Years
