Position Objective

Responsible for the success, growth, and development of the Design business and team with emphasis on business development, budgeting, resourcing, technical advising, and professional development. 

Core Responsibilities

  1. Foster and create client relationships in new and existing business and design opportunities.
  2. Develop and manage design project estimates and budgets.
  3. Negotiate client contracts with expectations that are clear and professionally managed while ensuring profit margins are met.
  4. Partner with the legal team to manage client contracts to ensure fair and equitable terms are agreed.
  5. Plan and assign resources to projects with the goal of providing a balanced workload for the team.
  6. Communicate daily, weekly, and monthly planning, goals, and results, as well as upcoming events, safety topics, and special assignments. Lead the team to achieve the goals; promote and demonstrate effective communication and positive culture, etc. 
  7. Manage direct reports and their activities. This includes overall performance management; training and development; analyzing and resolving work problems.
  8. Leverage design expertise to be an advisor to the team for materials, design choices, and client management.
  9. Oversee the hiring and orienting of new Design team members.
  10. Identify problems and root causes to issues preventing successful project completion. 
  11. Establish team goals to meet or exceed performance expectations and develop a strategy for process improvement. 
  12. Be a role model to all employees that is positive and proactive towards challenges, while living ATOMICs core values. 
  13. Participate in the yearly budgeting process with Management.
  14. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing appropriate standards and procedures and complying with those established by the Safety Committee.

Organizational Relationships

  • The Program Manager, Design reports to the Vice President Account Management and Technical Design and leads a team of Senior Production Designers, Production Designers, Designers, and Assistant Designers. The Program Manager, Design works closely with other Program Managers, Operations Managers, and Account Managers.

  • Ability to manage conflict. 
  • Understanding of finance and budget development/management skills
  • Ability to see the big picture. 
  • Advanced skills in Vectorworks, Cinemas, Corona or other CAD programs.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of materials and design solutions.

Credentials and Experience

  • Minimum of 5-years’ experience leading a team and in a leadership role. 
  • Minimum of 1-year of experience leading process management. 
  • Minimum of 8-years’ experience in Production Design.
  • Exposure to change management practices. 
  • Maintain a valid passport. 

Physical Requirements

  • Those necessary for general office work.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office environment, with warehouse environment at times.
  • Travel with work outdoors or inside event venues.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year, both domestically and internationally.
