Job Description

SGM's is seeking a Construction Technician II to join our Gunnison office! The ideal candidate has the desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado. Benefits may be prorated for part-time employees. This position will be posted until filled but no sooner than three days from now.

Job Summary:

The Construction Manager plans, develops, and manages mid- to large-sized projects with minimal external direction. Demonstrates leadership capabilities such as junior and mid-level staff supervision, mentoring, business development, and client service management. Monitors schedules, project expenditures, and materials and produces daily documentation. Coordinates between clients and external organizations. Coordinates with project management team, Contractor, and the general public when applicable. Has acquired and maintains necessary inspector certifications. Completes payroll verification, Civil Rights Documentation, creates MCRs (Minor Contract Revisions) and COs (Change Orders). Takes on responsibility for client relationships and finding new clients and develops and maintains effective professional working relationships with clients, shareholders, and all other entities involved at the project level.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop project scopes/budgets with minimal input required.
  • Routinely leads smaller proposal efforts, assists with many others, and helps with proposals.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule for mid/large scale and multi-disciplinary projects (without oversight) for many projects.
  • Coordinates between clients and external organizations.
  • Coordinates with project management team, Contractor daily, and the general public when applicable.
  • Completes payroll verification, Civil Rights Documentation, and creates MCRs (Minor Contract Revisions and COs (Change Orders). 
  • Reviewing actual work, performing all necessary project documentation, and performing higher-level tasks such as writing change orders.
  • Plays a QA/QC review role on in-house projects for constructability and buildability.
  • Can provide either part-time or full-time construction inspection and management.
  • Conducts key project meetings for medium to large-scale projects.
  • Interacts regularly with client and management personnel.
  • Leads and frequently assists with prospective new client relationship building.
  • Lead or assists with development and promotion of new services.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

  • May serve as Expert Witness.
  • May serve as designated SGM client service manager or assistant CSM, responsible for relationship building, for higher-profile clients.
  • May lead, "thought leadership" activities.
Job Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles, practices, and tools.

  • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.

  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.

  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.

  • Able to resolve modest conflicts with clients.

  • Able to resolve all resolvable conflicts with contractor and client.

  • Demonstrate capacity to maintain very long-term relationships (10 years). 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.

  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.

Education and Experience:

  • BS Construction Management

  • 15 years of experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
