With offices across North Carolina, the Medical Assistant role provides professional patient care under physician supervision. A Medical Assistant prepares patients for physician encounters, facilitates lab tests as needed, and assists with patient documentation and clinical duties as directed. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00p with travel to all 5 Wake County Locations.RequirementsQualifications and Experience:High school degree or equivalent requiredCMA Certification, or other equivalent education, certification, licensure, or related degree preferredMedical training and/or experience in casting or splinting preferredKnowledge of lab/diagnostic tests and handling paperworkComfortable using email and interacting with Internet applicationsKnowledge of practice management and word processing softwareWorking knowledge of managed care basicsCurrent CPR CertificationExcellent communication skillsExcellent documentation skills Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Controls patient flow for physician. Greets patient and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms, x-ray waiting, or cast roomMonitoring of physician schedules as appropriate to ensure adequate patient flow and preparation for clinicPrepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies for physician assessmentPrepares injections as ordered by the physicianAssists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor proceduresPrepare patient for examination, including appropriate clothing, positioning, and supplies necessary to complete patient examObtain and document patient medical history including reason for visit, and any other pertinent information related to treatment prior to physician exam. Obtain X-rays as indicated by physician order prior to physician examPrepares medical record information, including X-Ray films for physician review prior to physician examParticipates in minor procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, cast or splint and/or DME applicationObtains prior authorization for procedures, equipment, and medication, if appropriateSchedules tests and off-site diagnostic procedures when necessary per physicians' orderCommunicates physician referral requests to appropriate staff for processingEnsures timely communication of patient needs, concerns, test results to physicians for appropriate change in the patients plan of careEnsures timely communication with patient regarding plan of care and response to questions or concernsFunctions in the Care Coordinator role as neededPrepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilizationMaintains compliance with infection control policies and proceduresPerforms patient education when appropriate including oral and written education related to diagnosis, procedures, and/or medicationsReplenishes supplies-cleans exam room after each patient per infection control guidelines and stocks exam room at end of each dayCommunicates supply shortages as well as other clinical needs to Clinical Manager or designeeEnsures that laboratory and other diagnostic test results are obtained and communicated to physician to ensure appropriate and timely physician intervention. All pending results are obtained prior to patients next clinic visitEnsures all documentation accurately reflects the patient encounter and plan of care Other Responsibilities:Follows all applicable department and practice policies and proceduresMaintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality guidelines established by the practiceMaintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functionsComputer input of patient informationParticipates in mandatory staff functions as directed by Clinical manager (may include overtime)Performs all other tasks and projects delegated or assigned by the Clinical ManagerMaintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all dutiesMaintains compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain current certifications, licensure, etc...This position will be included in a mandatory backup rotation for urgent care coverage on Monday-Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays. Additional compensation will be paid at an on call hourly rate.
