Position Description

We are looking for a billing and coding specialist who has experience with behavior and mental health billing codes and requirements and wants to grow professionally as our programs continue to expand. This individual will be working with insurance companies regarding claims, denials and appropriate CPT and HCPS codes. They will assist clients with any incoming questions regarding bills or insurance and ensuring accuracy of all billing submissions and payer reimbursements.

Business Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-7:00pm, Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. This position can be Remote

Job Description

1.Understands ICD-10, CPT codes and needed modifiers in order to prepare and submit claims to various insurance companies and other relevant payers.

2.Prepares claims for Medicare, Medicaid, MCO’s and Other 3rdParty billing claims.

3.Strong knowledge of behavioral health billing, coding and collection practices

4.Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents

5.Submits claims electronically or by paper after reviewing bills for accuracy, including proper diagnosis and procedure codes.

6.Follows up with payers to resolve billing and payment issues, including incorrect claims processing, reimbursement amounts, and coding issues.

7.Researches, identifies, and rectifies any and all circumstances affecting delayed payment on accounts to include appeals of denied claims.

8.Collaborates internally with clinical staff, support staff and with payers to resolve billing issues.

9.Interacts with and maintains relationships with payers to resolve billing and claim payment issues and disputes.

10.Stays current with relevant regulations, including those of Medicare, Medicaid and all commercial insurance programs. This would include Medicare HMO’s and State Programs. Making sure you are meeting filing deadlines, billing requirements, and reimbursement methods.

11.Identifies regulatory changes that could impact claims processing, reimbursement and communicates those to supervisor.

12.Tracks and reports status of delinquent accounts to supervisor.

13.Provides feedback to supervisor on denial trends and claim edits to assist with process improvement and quality assurance within billing software.

14.Processes payments for assigned payers.

15.Communicate with Finance Officer as needed

16.Auditing as needed

17.Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations

18.Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills:

·Ability to multi task

·Work independently, detail oriented and organized

·Proficient with Iowa Medicaid, Medicare insurances, 3 party private insurances

·Ability navigate insurance portals

·Proficient in MS office programs

·Must have knowledge of ICD 10 codes, CPT codes and HCPS codes.

Qualifications

·Associates Degree in Business field or Healthcare related programming with 2-3 years of experience with Behavioral Health Billing and Coding

·Certification in Billing/Coding 

·Behavioral Health and Mental Health billing and coding is preferred. 

·Experience working with Payspan insurance portal preferred

·Experience working with individuals with mental health and behavioral health

·Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Outlook) in particular
