Educational Service District 123 is Hiring a Director of Candy Mountain Academy Near Pasco, WA

Department: Student Services
Reports To: Executive Director of Student Services
Classification: Certificated- Exempt (full-time year-round position)
Supervision: Certificated and Classified staff 
Starting Salary: $114,452.57 (year 1/step 1) - $128,817.37 (year 5/step 5) SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for the administration and instructional leadership of the program provided at the Academy. This includes providing all necessary leadership and management duties to ensure a successful educational program which serves students whose educational needs are primarily the result of significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in the development of procedures/processes for special education for the purpose of compliance with local, state, and federal policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program philosophy, mission, and goals for the purpose of effective operations of the program.
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments, as well as collect and analyze data to refine and improve operational functions and services for the purpose of continuing improvement planning.
  • Coordinate and consult with sending school staff and parents in the development of a therapeutic behavior intervention plan for students for the purpose of maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal policies.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships and partnerships with community agencies, school districts, families, and local, state, and federal government entities for the purpose of ensuring continuity of program philosophy, mission and goals.
  • Establish guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and programs for the purpose of effective and safe operations of the program.
  • Establish building/program guidelines and procedures for student activities and discipline for the purpose of effective operations of the program.
  • Facilitate the selection, supervision, and evaluation of all staff for the purpose of providing leadership and supervision of all instructional and activity programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of major developments and changes and assist in the implementation of special education and general education curriculums for the purpose of assisting in school improvement planning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of specially designed behavior intervention plans integrating Collaborative Problem Solving methodologies and comprehensive behavior support plans for the purpose of maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal policies.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of budget.
  • Follow all Board policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
Supervisory: Academy staff as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree required.
  • At least three years of successful job-related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Valid Administrative certificated required.
  • Experience with students who exhibit challenging behaviors due to disabilities and/or adverse childhood experiences.
  • Certificate Endorsement in Special Education required.
  • Competence with the use of Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and relevant equipment and software applications.
  • Experience working with PowerSchool preferred.
  • Exceptional personal/professional organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Must have a valid WA State Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
  • WSP/FBI background clearance required.

  • Sustain a comprehensive understanding of non-aversive behavioral crisis prevention and intervention, including Collaborative Problem Solving, Functional Behavioral Assessment and crisis prevention.
  • Work independently and with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Maintain positive relationships and efficient communication with diverse individuals and/or groups to serve the needs of the program and the mission of the agency including district personnel.
  • Be flexible, able to travel, and work non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. May require lifting 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
