Elementary Mathematics/Reading Coach- Special Temporary Assignment

Associate Superintendent/Educational Services and Assigned Principal

Temporary assignment based upon need and available funding.

General Description:

Provides support for teachers and schools as directed by the Associate Superintendent/Educational Services. Primary focus of job function is at the elementary level. Complex work is performed within specific departmental objectives and policies; employee plans work in consultation with the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services and the Executive Director of Elementary Education and coordinates services with district-level core content specialists. Considerable professional judgment is required.

Essential Job Functions:

• Collaborates with individual teachers or teams of teachers through co-planning, co-teaching and coaching.

• Works with EPS Central Office and school administrators to analyze school data and make individual building plans for professional development designed to increase student learning.

• Assists teachers in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction.

• Promotes teachers' delivery and understanding of the district curriculum through collaborative long-range and short-range planning.

• Facilitates teachers' use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.

• Models and provides professional development that focuses on the integration of technology to enhance student learning.

• Arranges for professional development through collaborative investigations or discussion groups with teachers.

• Conducts non-evaluative observations of teaching and learning to provide clinical supervision and improve instruction.

• Engages in research-based professional development and applies learned professional development practices.

• Assists teachers in designing and interpreting assessments of student understanding.

• Assists in development ofEPS curriculum and assessment resources.

• Prepares and delivers staff development activities related to math and reading/language arts for targeted teachers.

• Model teaches classes to demonstrate innovative and effective teaching strategies.

• Other duties professional development activities as assigned by the Associate Superintendent/Educational Services. Conditions of Assignment: This assignment is considered a special assignment and may extend to a multiple year assignment. Budgetary Responsibility: N/A

Equipment Operation:

Operates personal computer and general office equipment.

Work Direction:

Provides direction to teachers in development and revision of curriculum resources, lesson planning and instructional strategies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the content, concepts, principles and methodologies of mathematics and reading/language arts education in a public school setting; of current curriculum development, Common Core State Standards, program implementation of mathematics and reading/language arts, learning theory, recent research, school organization, supervision and available state and local resources. Working skill in the use and access of a wide variety of media and technology to support job functions; proficient use ofMS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and) preferred. Training will be provided.

CERTIFICATES. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Master's Degree or enrollment in Master's program preferred, but not required. A minimum of three years of successful full-time elementary teaching experience. Oklahoma certification is (highly qualified) essential.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Abtlity to read, analyze, and interpret general bnsiness periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

REASONABLE ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to peiform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
