SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Purpose Statement:
The job of the School Psychologist is for the purpose of providing psychological services including assessment, diagnosis and consultation with and for students, their families and support staff.
Essential Functions
School Psychologists Work With Students to:
  • Provide consultation and mentoring for those struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems
  • Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning
  • Promote wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self- determination, and optimism
  • Enhance understanding and acceptance of diverse cultures and backgrounds
School Psychologists Work With Students and Their Families to:
  • Identify and address learning and behavior problems that interfere with school success
  • Evaluate eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team)
  • Support students' social, emotional, and behavioral health
  • Enhance home- school collaboration
  • Help coordinate community support services, when needed
School Psychologists Work With Teachers to:
  • Identify and resolve academic barriers to learning
  • Provide consultation related to student progress monitoring systems
  • Provide consultation related to academic and behavioral interventions
  • Provide consultation related to effective individualized instruction
  • Provide consultation related to positive classroom environments
School Psychologists Work With Administrators to:
  • Provide consultation related to school-wide prevention programs that help maintain positive school climates conducive to learning
  • Provide consultation related to school policies and practices that ensure the safety of all students by reducing school violence, bullying, and harassment
  • Provide consultation related to crises by providing leadership and coordination with needed community services
Other Functions

Job Requirements: (minimum qualifications)
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to perform in changing job conditions.Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adequate training in assessment, diagnosis, consultation, program evaluation, program development, adhering to safety practices and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic mathematical calculations and basic statistics as it relates to normative data; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; mediate team agreements and disagreements, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: health standards and hazards and safety practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; and leading and/or working as part of a team. Ability to perform online virtual testing.
Responsibility:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and /or methods and operating within a defined budget.Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.There is some opportunity to affect the Organization's services.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
