Edison Electric Institute is Hiring a Government Affairs Internship Near Washington, DC

Overview

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is seeking a talented and committed intern to join the Government Affairs team this summer. This role provides the opportunity to gain exposure to the rulemaking process by attending congressional hearings. The dates of this internship are mid-May through mid-August and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. Start and end dates are negotiable.

EEI is the trade association for all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our office is located in the heart of Penn Quarter, on Pennsylvania Avenue between the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House. 

This is a paid internship.

  • College Students: $20 per hour
  • Graduate Students: $23 per hour

EEI’s Federal Government Affairs (GA) team leads the organization’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and throughout the Administration. Federal GA is part of the larger External Affairs department and works with member companies, external stakeholders, and all of the departments within EEI to develop and implement varying policies that support the industry.

This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with an interest government relations and political science.

Responsibilities

  • Attend assigned congressional hearings and draft hearing summaries for the team focusing on key issues facing the industry.
  • Support the team with drafting of white papers, attending policy briefings, and memos of relevant meetings.
  • Complete assigned research projects to include tracking of relevant members, legislation, and funding.
  • Support the team by attending meetings and providing minutes and meeting notes.
  • Support the team with administrative duties.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or having recently completed, an undergraduate or graduate program with focus in government relations or political science.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to summarize large amounts of information.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability and desire to learn.

Preferences

  • Prior experience working in an office environment. 

This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area for the duration of the internship and come into the office a minimum of three days each week.
