ECS is seeking a Lead Communications Specialist to work in our Washington, DC office.

Job Description:

ECS is seeking a Lead Communications Specialist to work in our Washington, DC office. This is anticipated to be a hybrid remote/in-person position with in-person work at the client site in Washington, DC at least once per week (frequency to increase or decrease based on client need).

Job Description:

ECS is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist to support strategic communications for our client at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Experience Office (VEO). This position will be responsible for working independently 1-on-1 with executive-level clients to develop communications products such as fact sheets, talking points, blogs, etc. This role requires a combination of communications, problem solving and analytical skills, collaboration and teamwork, and client relationship building/management skills. A successful candidate will have a high attention to detail and demonstrate excellence in oral and written communications (briefings, presentations, and client ready documentation). A writing sample will be a requirement of the interview process.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with development of communication materials (content creation, CRM tracking, writing, etc..) in support of a high-priority VEO initiative, to include marketing material for internal VA stakeholders to promote programs and offerings.
  • Assist with development and design of communication material to provide VEO and other senior leaders with updates on programs and projects.
  • Assist with development of content across workstreams (such as writing for design impact reports, onboarding materials, etc..).
  • Effectively and professionally engage with all project stakeholders and explain complex concepts in plain language.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in communications strategy and approach.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in the program to enhance communications artifacts and programs with minimal supervision.
  • Manage day-to-day client relationships and communications.
  • Represent ECS at client progress meetings and briefings.

Salary Range: 80,000-100,000

Required Skills:

  • Master's degree.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
  • 5 years of experience in a federal strategic communications role.
  • Consulting Experience.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting of client-ready materials.
  • Strong consulting and interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to work with senior leadership.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project).
  • Outstanding writing skills, and experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including: client educational materials, fact sheets, infographics, posters, and reports.

Desired Skills:

  • Prior experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Consulting experience.
  • Expertise using Adobe InDesign and other specialized software that may be used to support communications products.
  • Familiarity with requirements of the Federal Government Printing Office Style Manual and/or Section 508 compliance is a plus.
