Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare layout jobs, read and understand plans at an advanced level; work to plans and specifications
  • Manage/run a crew of up to six (6); Assist with onsite labor duties when required
  • Approach others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats other with respect and considerations; accept responsibility for own actions; follow through on commitments.
  • Owner/Customer Satisfaction: Provide customer with a quality product per customers desires, specs and local regulations and requirements; both internal and external clients. Maintain excellent & professional relationships with clients
  • Communication: Be available during the work day for customers and team members for clarification of job details. Make recommendations/advise the Customer, Project Manager and Operations Manager of information pertinent to job status and work progress
  • Competently and efficiently perform all duties of a loader hand, excavator backfill hand and top hand.
  • Operation of excavators and associated equipment to include grading, parking lot preparation, large excavations and lead excavation on pipe install; maintenance of equipment (grease, fuel, check fluids, clean filters etc.)
  • Traveling to and from jobs; Driving, hauling and loading equipment or materials. Moving materials and tools to and from storage and the job site. Transport, load and unload materials.
  • Cleaning Site – Removal of tools and supplies, packing of truck, and general housekeeping of site.
  • Safety: Assure safety of crew at all times and adhere to the U.S. Occupational Safety Health Administration’s (OSHA) construction regulations. Lead and follow safety procedures to ensure safety of self and crew at all times. This includes utilizing Personal Protective Equipment at all times while being on a jobsite.
  • Office Support/ Paperwork: Ensure crews are prepared for starts with the provided documentation and job worksheets/DVIRs are completed and turned in on a daily basis. Submit City of Bozeman sewer certification sheets and septic as builds in a timely manner. Assist in billing, crew performance reviews and staffing recommendations. Complete JSA, T&M, timesheet and other job sheet documentation timely and accurately
  • Mentoring: Educate and promote those who work for you. Empower your crews with proper training and project preparation to allow them to work efficiently and independently. Identify areas for improvement and work with Human Resources to develop training plans and development opportunities.
  • Job Preparation/Site Safety: Conduct pre-construction meetings at the start of every new project; review and study plans with operators prior to going to job site. Inspect job site prior to start to ensure proper safety measures and proper tools are in place
  • Job Execution: Plan each day’s jobs and resources the day before and communicate plan effectively to crew(s), Customer(s), Project Manager, Operations Manager and leadership/members of Easton Companies. Schedule trucking, material deliveries, crew, special equipment/tools. Scheduling to include adjustments to labor assignments, and coordination with builder and layout. Ensure crew meets scheduled deadlines. Be flexible, roll with changes as required and adjust accordingly as early as possible.
  • Leadership: Your attitude is reflected in your crew; a winning attitude always wins. Always maintain a respectful, positive and empowering attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers License
  • 1-3 years of experience in Excavation Operating (preferred)

Working Conditions:

  • This position involves work at construction sites where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors. Both cold and warm conditions will be experienced, including inclement weather.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Hours are often 10 or more hours a day, 50 or more hours a week, as work demands. Work hours can be seasonal.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Excavator/Hoes and other heavy equipment.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Knowledge of sub-base materials and aggregation placement and compaction
  • Knowledge of underground and overhead services and articulation
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Candidate must have manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Very good physical strength and stamina, able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
  • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
