East New York Farms is Hiring a Food Hub Manager Near Brooklyn, NY

United Community Centers (UCC) is a social justice driven community center that has been serving the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn for over 60 years. Our mission is to work together with residents of all ages and cultures to address our community’s challenges, celebrate its strengths, and provide services that improve lives.

ENYF is a project of the United Community Centers, Inc (UCC). ENYF! is a diverse group of gardeners, vendors, farmers and youth working together to strengthen our community through gardens, fresh food, and farmers markets.

The Food Hub Manager role is to widen access to whole foods in ENY while inspiring local residents to eat fresh, local and in season. The goal of the hub is to place fresh produce beyond our farm stands to increase access throughout our community. The manager will recruit and work with local growers to increase their produce yield to meet the needs of small local businesses and consumers within the community. The manager will manage relationships with gardeners and community members throughout the East New York area. They will act as ambassadors to the project and recruit participants. The manager will organize and coordinate the Food Hub program with the support of their supervisor. This is a 3 year pilot project funded by the USDA.

We will prioritize individuals that identify as BIPOC, who are fully vaccinated, able to work onsite/in-person and identify with the community.

Role and Responsibilities:

    *Recruit, train, and support community gardeners as Hub participants. *Research and connect with local bodegas to be Hub sites. *Provide support to growers through labor and technical assistance, supplies, garden education workshops, and data collection. *Coordinate with Compost Program Manager to create compost sites in Hub participant spaces and re-distribute finished compost to participants and community *Coordinate Hub participant meetings to track progress and poll project needs. *Connect with participating organizations leading this work. *Support the youth program at markets, on farms, community gardens, and in workshops. *Coordinate with neighborhood and city-wide partners to provide garden support such as volunteer groups workdays at community gardens. *Documenting our work through Google Cloud *Supporting or Facilitating youth and staff team building workshops. *Supporting Community Efforts and Organizing *Occasional garden work.

Qualifications

    *Interest and experience in grassroots organizing and community-based work. *Experience in customer service, urban agriculture, and working in multicultural environments *Proven experience in identifying target audiences and in creatively devising and leading projects that engage, educate and motivate. *Experience with organization and time management *Familiarity with East New York. *Comfortable working outside in all weather. *Capable of lifting 40 pounds. *Able to work Tuesday-Saturday. *Drivers License required

Desired Qualities

    *Interest and experience in community work, youth development, education and food justice. *Experience with Google cloud. *Comfortable delegating tasks *Willing to train/learn *Excellent communication and decision-making skills *Able to work independently and initiate projects. *Comfortable working with groups of people of diverse ages and backgrounds. *Knowledge of Spanish or Bangla is helpful but not required.

Benefits

    *Salary: $46,000/yr *Paid vacation time and sick leave accumulated after 6 months of probation *Simple IRA plan, full medical and dental insurance

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts all days except Sundays and Mondays. Compensation is $22.00 - $25.00/hour.
