Duke University seeks applicants with an interest in medicine and science, strong editing skills, and exceptional attention to detail to serve as PUBLICATIONS SPECIALIST for the American Journal of Transplantation. The American Journal of Transplantation is the official journal for the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and its editorial office is located at Duke University. Work will entail projects directed toward enhancing the operations of the journal particularly as they relate to improving the efficiency of publication and enhancing the process of peer review. The applicant will work closely with the Managing Editor to provide editorial support for the journal. The person in this position will work closely with other staff to meet deadlines and achieve departmental goals.
Role Description:
Coordinate and participate in a variety of editorial and preproduction activities required in preparing the journal and other initiatives for publication; develop and/or prepare various other publications and printed materials and provide general editorial assistance to the Managing Editor.
In addition to providing support for the AJT editorial office, approximately 10% of job will entail providing editorial assistance to the Office of the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Surgery

Education
Work requires the ability to perform skilled and creative graphic arts functions generally acquired through an associate's degree in graphic or commercial arts or a related field.
Experience
Work generally requires three years graphic arts or related experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE to acquire considerable knowledge of and skill in complex design, layout, and commercial arts methods and techniques and an ability to analyze and interpret art needs of various publications and communications programs. A bachelor's degree in graphic or commercial arts or a related field may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis.
