Employees of WCU are provided a comprehensive benefits package as well as other resources, policies and programs to ensure a happy and healthy work/life balance. Eligible employees have access to tuition waivers for up to three courses per academic year; employee may enroll at any of the constituent UNC System campuses. Also offered are free group exercise classes multiple times per week, a discounted membership to the campus recreation center, free vaccine and booster shots offered on campus, pretax flexible spending accounts, 12 paid holidays and 24 hours of paid community service leave each year. Paid vacation and sick leave accrual begin after first month of employment. Paid parental leave after 12 months of continuous service.
WCU offers an abundance of training and development programs, certifications, workshops and conferences - many of which are offered free of charge.
Position Summary
This position may be based either on our main Cullowhee, NC campus or remotely in the Charlotte region. The final determination will be made based on the needs of the department and the location of the selected candidate.
The primary purposes of this position include:
  1. Communicate with school and community college counselors, WCU counselors, WCU faculty and staff, prospective students and students' parents to promote Western's attributes and to counsel students as to the possibility of admittance to the University.
  2. Manage a recruitment territory to maintain contact with community college counselors and students.
  3. Plan special events, particularly those that relate to transfer recruitment.
  4. Prepare and present public and interpersonal presentations to varied audiences to promote the university and higher education.
  5. Review, determine eligibility and make decisions on applicants for admission.
  6. Prepare appropriate written responses regarding admission, referral or denial of the applicants' application. Adhere to all FERPA guidelines when speaking with prospective students and students' parents.
  7. Maintain a thorough knowledge of university, UNC General Administration, state and federal education programs and policies.
  8. Represent the Office of Admission on special committees, projects, or events.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for immigration-related employer sponsorship.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
