$42.78/hour DOE

 A Brief OverviewThe GIS Analyst performs computer applications and/or database design, development, implements services for departmental users utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology; supports project teams, the environmental department and any other DU employee/group in GIS or mapping requirement.

Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Create and maintain the GIS database and perform updates and edits.
  • Prepare maps and data records as necessary.
  • Conduct GPS field collections of utilities.
  • Review and verify mapping data or themes provided by government agencies or private sector contractors for accuracy and consistency, modifying and correcting database values as necessary.
  • Assist in the evaluation, development, and adaptation of computer software applications for capture, conversion and maintenance procedures related to GIS.
  • Identify and research external sources of hardware, GIS software, and resources.
  • Assist and train others in GIS related areas.
  • Participate as a member of project teams as necessary.
  • Communicate project objectives, plans and status to all members of a project team and management.
  • Prepare for and conduct GIS data exchange with the Government on routine basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska.
  • Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, IT or related field. May substitute formal training with adequate experience. Required
  • 3 years experience in an information systems environment, including systems analysis, design, integration, and implementation. Required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Map, Arc Pro, ArcSDE for SQL Server.
  • Strong geodatabase design skills.
  • Familiar with Spatial Data Standard for Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE).
  • Strong Microsoft Windows / Office applications experience.
  • Experience with GPS data collection.
  • Familiar with SQL Server database administration and development.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify the technology user’s needs and opportunities to use technology to add value.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Enthusiastic about learning, pushing technical limits and finding new solutions.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Combination: This job operates in a mix between an office environment and field environment. The employee will be required to work both indoors and outdoors while conducting work related activities for various Doyon Utilities projects and operation and maintenance functions in Alaska. Employee may be exposed to heat, cold and frequent changes in t temperatures. Work often will be damp, dusty, dirty, windy, or in snow.
