Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the employee will be responsible for moderately complex accounting activities in an accurate and timely manner.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and manipulate complex accounting spreadsheets
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable are posted correctly and on time
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and operating reports for distribution to management and other personnel
  • Set up and track Work-In-Progress accounts for grant projects
  • Monthly credit card account reconciliations
  • Review budget to actual reports for unusual variances
  • Prepare, post, and review journal entries
  • Responsible for general ledger account reconciliation
  • Perform various cash functions such as online banking and bank reconciliations
  • Assist in the annual Doyon Foundation financial audit
  • Provide accounting advice to subsidiary accounting staff and management
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy
  • Document and explain complex accounting transactions
  • Meet deadlines, organize work materials, and manage time effectively
  • Prepare quarterly financials for Board Meetings
  • Work with management to prepare budgets
  • Knowledge of accounting software, specifically Quickbooks
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Attendance of continuing education initiatives, including a limited number of events each year requiring overnight travel, may be required

SUPERVISION:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is desired, as well as at least one (1) year of relevant work experience.; formal training in accounting and at least five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of computerized and manual accounting systems
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bchelor’s degree in Accounting with two (2) or more years of relevant work experience
  • Accounting experience in mid-to-large sized company

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
