DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville Downtown is Hiring an Engineer Near Asheville, NC

Summary:

Support the overall operations of the Maintenance department with particular focus on assuring each element of the property is in perfect working order. Responsible for the repairs, maintenance, upkeep and replacement of the property's systems in accordance with hotel standards. Will also assist in other areas of Engineering as assigned by the Chief Engineer. Responsible for both guest and associate calls they respond immediately to any issues that arise. Strive to anticipate (preventative maintenance) problems.

This position requires evening and weekend availability.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of all guests and associates.
  • Ensure the availability of all guest rooms on a daily basis.
  • Maintain and repair all hotel equipment as directed.
  • Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance and storage of all tools.
  • Handle chemicals for designated uses/surfaces, according to hotel requirements.
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance as determined by the Chief Engineer, GM or as needed. (Through service work check lists, preventative maintenance, mechanic challenges, operation testing.)
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment scheduled. i.e. service work, grinding, adjustments.
  • Perform walk around inspections on equipment with a critical eye through checking equipment for condition and parts to be repaired or replaced. Maintain documentation through the use of service sheets.
  • Thrive in an energized environment embracing and contributing to the overall element hotels service culture.
  • Be proactive in monitoring the general condition of the building and surroundings at all times waking the property with a critical eye.
  • Taking initiative to repair defects as they are encountered on the property.
  • Understand the desired guest experience and how critical their role is in the delivery and success of that experience.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions:

  • Participate in all mandatory job training and meetings
  • Assist with any special projects assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Qualifications (Essential):

  • Minimum two years’ experience in related field preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to provide legible written communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Qualifications (Desired):

  • High school graduate or equivalent vocation training.
  • Previous guest relations and/or training.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Ability to deal with management, associates, guests, and general public in a courteous, tactful and patient manner.
  • Approach each guest interaction with the mindset of exceeding guest expectations and contributing to the overall guest experience.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and department heads.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Engineering Department.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
  • Illustrate professionalism through positive attitude, spirit and leading by example.
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace, high energy and demanding work environment.
  • Dedicated, hard-working, self-motivated to work independently withlittle guidance.
  • Practice safety standards at all times.
  • Complete knowledge of Emergency Equipment Manual, i.e., utility and water shutoff equipment, fire alarm system/panel and emergency procedures, etc.

Special Requirements:

  • The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Department schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands and associates may beasked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work and overtime as required.
  • Associates are required to comply with hotel and/or department uniform and professional attitude and Grooming and Appearance standards.
  • All Safety Guidelines must be adhered too, including non-slip shoes, utilization of back brace when lifting heavy items, etc.
  • Associates are expected to carry out all reasonable requests by team leaders and managers and act as a team player with all levels of staff.
  • Immediately report any suspicious activities by guests or others.
  • Adhere to requirements, policies, and procedures outlined in Employee Handbook and/or other property documents.

  • Employee is required to wear a Safety Support Belt when lifting any weight over 25 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning and repair/maintenance tasks.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions, one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is subject to oils; there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
