DHR Health is Hiring a Medical Assistant, DHR Orthopedic Institute Near Allen, TX

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School/GED preferred.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program required
  • BLS certification required, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues
  • Good written, organizational and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to read, write and speak English, required
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physician
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • Two (2) years experience in clinical setting most desirable.
  • Ability to take vital signs to include, but not limited to: height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate and pulse
  • Must have computer experience and must be able to learn practice IS system
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience with an EMR system preferred.
  • Must have excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, patient history, chief complaint and information such as test results in medical records.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean and well stocked with supplies.
  • Meets with patients to present surgical orders, explain post op care, answer any of the patient or families questions and walks the patient through the process to register at the hospital for surgery as needed.
  • Scribe for physicians as needed.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies, as needed.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, as needed.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and perform basic administrative medical assisting functions.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
  • Schedule, make referrals to other providers, coordinate and monitor appointments
  • Understand and adhere to managed care policies and procedures.
  • Monitor schedule in order to ensure that medical records needed from other physicians or hospital are obtained prior to patient coming into the office for scheduled visit.
  • Verify insurance and obtain prior authorizations on visits, procedures and medications as needed.
  • Comply with quality assurance practices and TJC requirements. Comply with Compliance practices.
  • Screen, collect and follow up on patient test results and/or procedures and op reports, as needed.
  • Perform diagnostic and laboratory tests and wound care as necessary.
  • Applies/removes casting materials and splints as needed per MD instructions
  • Adhere to established patient screening procedures at all times.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies as needed.
  • Prepares and maintains all patient files in an orderly fashion.
  • File and or scan faxed information in charts after review by provider as necessary.
  • Ensure that positive results or stat results are provided to the practitioner in a timely manner.
  • Orders and keeps inventory of all medical and injectable supplies and orders as needed.
  • Answer and direct all phone calls appropriately
  • Effectively communicates and works well with other staff
  • Adheres to assigned projects/tasks
  • Volunteers for special assignments/projects
  • Register patients, confirm appointments, verify insurance benefits, as needed.
  • Performs other assigned duties and be flexible to cover areas as needed
  • Perform basic reception and billing functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC :

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.
