Job Summary:

The Director of Clinical Services provides leadership and strategic planning for clinical services programs and ensures that programs meet the needs of the community, patients, individuals, and families. Contributes to the psychosocial, clinical, quality, financial, and patient satisfaction outcomes of the hospital. Responsibilities include administrative processes and management systems for all clinical services, promotion and maintenance of therapeutic environment, and implementation of clinical treatment goals.

LEADERSHIP

  • As a member of the Senior Leadership team the Director of Clinical Services demonstrates:
  • Clinical and operational leadership
  • Serve as strategic partner to the CEO and other Senior Leadership members.
  • Ensure effective functioning of the facilities infrastructure.
  • Ensure all patient, family and referral complaints are properly handled.
  • Coordinate the collection of outcome data within corporate deadlines.
  • Conduct department meetings on a regular basis, reviews patient discharges, and ensures minutes/reports are posted and available to clinical and leadership teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities listed below are essential to the employee’s position:

  • Administrate how clinical team members assess the needs of referred patients, complete biopsychosocials and treatment plan goals, conduct 1:1 therapy sessions, and facilitate inpatient therapy groups for patients according to a therapeutic model.
  • Collaborate with outpatient teams and clinical/licensure supervisor regarding appropriate patient care, including completing all clinical documentation.
  • Provide clinical oversight, monitors, and evaluates social work activities including psychosocial evaluations of patient’s physical, social, and emotional functioning as well as financial and family support.
  • Oversee and evaluate the workflow efficiencies of clinical services department.
  • Provide direct clinical development and training.
  • Remain current on all clinical techniques and provide direction to staff and facility personnel.
  • Follow internal procedures and external regulations.
  • Bring compliance issues to the attention of management.
  • Complete regulatory training requirements periodically.
  • Work collaboratively in all facets of position to meet position requirements and support hospital goals.
  • Maintain an active involvement and awareness of all patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

  • Ensures that clinical team members actively participate as members of the interdisciplinary team.

Personnel Management and Staffing:

  • Coordinate with other leadership team members concerning scheduling and configuration to meet the demands of the patient populations and census.
  • Facilitate training, clinical oversight, professional development, and orientates new clinical team members on roles and responsibilities.
  • Meet regularly with program therapist, social workers, case managers, providers, and program staff to ensure compliance with treatment planning.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Conform with and abide by all Joint Commission, federal, state regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned. Participates on committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities.

EDUCATION, REQUIREMENT, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited school of social work, or related mental health field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in program management in psychiatric/mental health field.
  • Arizona State LCSW or LPC preferred or must have LMSW or LCSW.
  • Strong knowledge of Office of Behavioral Health Licensure (OBHL), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Patient Rights.
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card in the State of Arizona or provide proof of application by hire date.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Microsoft windows environment with Office Suite to include formatting and production of word processing documents, spreadsheets, and reports. Ability to use tools for video conferencing, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of managed care philosophy related to mental health services.
  • Strong leadership potential including presentation, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to accurately interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to develop and organize programs of clinical services based on specialized patient care.
  • Ability to accept direction, meet corporate deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, self-disciplined, and willing to “roll up” the sleeves when needed to get the job done; yet develops others to do the same.
  • Ability to maintain an awareness of payor needs and requirements.
  • Plans the work of others and coordinates work with other departments or external agencies.
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong attention to detail and well organized.
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet business needs.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as work effectively with teams.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computer/computer software programs, telephones, paging systems, copy machine, filing cabinets, and facsimile machines. On-site position.

The Employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds (file cabinet drawers, computer paper boxes).

Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination. The work environment is subject to interruptions, varying and unpredictable situations and time pressures related to multiple tasks. It also requires regular use of a computer keyboard and monitor. There is extensive repetitive motion in using hands/wrists.
