Desert Oasis Healthcare is Hiring a Customer Service Coordinator Near Palm Springs, CA

Acts as a customer service advocate for members, providers and health plans affiliated with DOHC. Provides assistance with referrals, resolution to a customer concern, PCP or health plan designation, or responding to general inquiries. Can provide basic education/coaching in relation to the services DOHC provides.
  • Handles incoming calls via ACD queue and direct line as well as placing outbound calls in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Receive and process physician and/or office staff, member, and/or health plan inquiries within 24 hours, documenting action taken and outcome in the appropriate systems.
  • Performs timely referral-related research using appropriate resources (i.e., Referral Coordinators, PCP/Specialty provider offices, ancillary providers, etc.) in problem solving to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
  • Research problematic referrals (e.g., not submitted, not showing in system, deferrals and denials).
  • Communicating with provider offices via telephone or electronically to facilitate inquiry resolution.
  • Works with Eligibility Department to verify current coverage, process demographic changes (e.g., address and/or phone number) verify PCP and/or health plan designation.
  • Updates the appropriate systems with current and accurate information. Documents all interactions/activity in the appropriate format and into the appropriate systems.
  • Contacts members when returned mail is received for bad addresses. Based on member’s response will communicate with Eligibility Department to update the member’s file.
  • Educates members on the referral process that will include, but are not limited to, the types of referrals (self, direct, Urgent, etc.), the responsibilities of the PCP/Specialist, and the processing timelines as regulated by the health plans.
  • Educates members on the handling a formal grievance/complaint or appeal with the health plan, selecting a new PCP or changing health plans.
  • Educates members on the variety of specialty programs DOHC offers. Alerts the appropriate specialty area if a need is identified.
  • Prepares daily authorization letters for mailing to members in a timely manner.
  • Provide members with verbal notification of urgent referral determinations (approved, denied, deferred, redirected) in accordance with the Turn Around Time (TAT) requirements. Documents verbal notification in appropriate systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in customer service required. Healthcare/ Medical experience preferred (e.g., physician office, Health Plan, clinic or hospital).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Proficient in computer and word processing programs. Current knowledge of medical coding and/or medical terminology preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, function under pressure, and multi-task at any given time.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • At the discretion of DOHC/FHC management, this position has the potential to be a full or hybrid telecommuting position.
