DePaul Talent Acquisition is Hiring a Database Administrator, Intermediate Near Chicago, IL

The Highlights:

Responsible for all activities related to the administration of the database environment. Participates in planning, design implementation, and maintenance of database environments. Assists in the selection of technological solutions with regards to processing, data storage, data access, and applications development. Follows standards for relational database structures for the organization. Ensures long-term requirements of database operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining database environments in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to database systems and supporting technologies. Assists in the scheduling of installation and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the database environments to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups, database archives, and clone operations. Creates, manages, and maintains database structures and objects. Secures the database environment by managing and monitoring user and application access in accordance with established IT security policies and procedures. Assists in developing and promoting standard operating procedures.
  • Functions as proficient admin in particular aspects of database administration, such as backup and recovery, application integration, database management tools, implementation of new technologies. Shares procedural and technical guidance with other database administrators. Participates in cross-functional project teams as database admin to support new IT initiatives that serve the university’s strategic efforts. Collaborates with developers, end-users, and vendors in support of business processing requirements. 
  • Required to be on call 24/7 on a rotating schedule. 
  • Occasionally requires off hours work, including nights and weekends.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a technology field, with 3 years database administration experience or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years combined experience in database administration and development is required. Knowledge of Oracle databases (19c or higher), SQL Server (2012 or higher). Knowledge of OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is preferable. Proficient knowledge of Linux, Windows Server, SQL, and the Microsoft Office Suite is required. Proficient knowledge in Oracle database security is preferred. A background in data warehousing is desired. Azure Cloud DBA experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills required. Demonstration of active listening skills is essential in order to understand user requests. Able to document technical requirements and tasks in a clear, concise manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required. The ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment is necessary. 
  • Utilize a strong working knowledge of a variety of technology disciplines and components, including, but not limited to: data networking, firewalls, load balancers, storage subsystems, and software development.
