Job Summary
Responsibilities
1. Manages, coordinates, and delegates the activities of employees assigned to their responsible unit. Utilizes software applications and information systems to perform and oversee work processes. Meets all established deadlines. Demonstrates working knowledge of information systems and their capabilities to effectively and efficiently reconcile accounts. 2. Submits documentation or input on unit/departmental needs, procedures, processes, and training. Establishes consistent methods for reviewing the quality/quantity of employees’ work. Performs and documents audits of individual employee work. Conducts regular unit meetings and individual 1:1s with direct reports. Utilizes multiple sources as a means of communication. Provides guidance and support to direct reports. 3. Meet, monitor and trend key performance indicators (KPI). 4. Identify problems and opportunities for improvement; develop appropriate solutions by involving others in the resolution and implementation process. 5. Recognize training and unit development needs of direct reports and ensures appropriate training is provided. 6. Maintains employee documentation regarding attendance, performance, and counseling. Follows Denver Health and Hospital Authority (and/or Career Service Authority) guidelines. Addresses and handles complaints, conflicts, grievances, and resolutions in a professional and timely manner. 7. Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. 8. Conducts all performance evaluations on time annually. Coaching each direct report throughout the year to set specific professional, personal and behavioral goals. 9. Initiates formal/informal activities with direct reports to develop departmental cohesion and collegiality. 10. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Excellent communication and customer service skills. 2. Ability to solve problems and react quickly to urgent situations. 3. Knowledge and understanding of insurance benefit plans and explanation of benefits. 4. Current knowledge of regulatory requirements and codes. 5. Identifying operational issues and suggesting possible improvements. 6. Ability to uphold departmental productivity and quality standards. 7. Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical and analytical thinking, organization and problem solving skills. 8. Ability to prioritize work activities and delegate tasks. Easily adapt to change. Ability to utilize various software applications and information systems to perform work processes. Computers and Technology 1. Working knowledge of various billing/collections systems (Epic preferred). 2. Working knowledge of various imaging systems. 3. Working knowledge of Payer Websites. 4. Knowledge of insurance verification systems.
Education
• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience
Five years’ experience with patient financial services (patient billing, cash applications, customer service, collections/negotiations and/or follow-up) in a hospital/medical office setting required.
